Travel to Carribean

We are looking to travel to the Carribean with our 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 year olds and would like suggestions on which are the best islands to visit with kids. We are looking to relax, but don't want to get bored so a variety of activities is key. We want great beaches (although not interested in snorkeling), hiking/nature trails, culture, good restaurants, a kids club as well as family activities like golf or tennis. We are leaning towards Puerto Rico or St. Lucia, but are open. We just aren't interested in an Atlantis type atmosphere. Thanks for your help!

Caymen Islands! Best family vacations ever!

I loved Puerto Rico. You have Old San Juan and the fort (and shops, cobble stone streets)as well as the rain forest with waterfalls. You can walk to restaurants (including ice cream shops for the kids) and nightlife. Lots of culture and lots of fun! Have fun and sooo jealous! :)

I like St.Lucia, but I don't think I would take the kids. Puerto Rico would be a great choice, The Caymans, Turks and Caicos or the Virgin Islands -American or British. St. John is GORGEOUS. Skip St. Thomas -way too touristy. St. Croix is lovely too and the BVI are fantastic.

I have family in Puerto Rico so we have been going for years....we were just there for Thanksgiving. Its beautiful and offers a little something for everyone and no passport needed...easy travel.

We've stayed in Condado, Isla Verde and at the Westin's resort Rio Mar. Rio Mar is very close to El Junque (rain forest)...which is beautiful, great hiking, beautiful waterfalls. Condado has lots of fun shops and restaurants to walk to and is right next to Old San Juan. Isla Verde and Carolina are closer to the airport...beautiful hotels and beaches but not as much to walk to for dinner.

We have a 3 1/2 yr old and then my nieces who are 9 and 12 stay with us at the hotel...we've stayed at the Ritz the past two yrs and paid extra for the club level. Its awesome...you get breakfast, lunch, app, dessert and drinks included in the price. The food is great and you don't get mad if the kids don't eat everything or like everything. Eating out for every meal is expensive so we tried this last year and it was a life saver.

La Concha in Condado is a new hotel and really nice. El Conquistador is a resort (haven't stayed there) that's super family friendly.

The island isn't big so you can get around pretty easily and most hotels offer shuttles to the rain forest if you want to check it out. Old San Juan has some great shops (and outlets...polo, coach) and really cute outdoor restaurants.

The weather channel showed rain every day for the time we were going....it was 85 and sunny every day! Most hotels also have casinos if you're into that...hard to do with kids obviously :)

Let me know if you have any other questions about PR...I can always email my sister-in-law to see about other hotels if you have a question.

enjoy!

We love St. Maarten! In fact we are going for New Years with our 5 and 2 year olds. There is a zoo, butterfly farm, zip line adventures, horseback riding - not to mention the beaches are stellar and the food amazing, especially on the French side. Plenty of hotels too. We have a timeshare at Oyster Bay Beach Resort so lots of kid activities but there is a Westin next door and I have heard great things. Have fun!
