Travel ID for Toddler for Domestic Flight

We went to the driver's license place to just get an ID card. I think it cost us $5. It is an official state ID too.

Copy of his birth certificate is all you need for domestic flights. Honestly? We fly all the time and I have yet to have someone actually ask me for it, but we have it with us just in case they do!

The only thing I was ever told was to have a copy of his birth certificate, but then no one even asked for it. You can check with the airline you are flying on for their requirements but an ID is typically not necessary.

If he is a "lap baby" (sharing your seat) you'll need proof he is under the age of two. That's going to be a certificate of live birth, or birth certificate.

Kids two and older must ride in their own seat.
If you aren't carrying a lap baby, no ID required for a *domestic* flight.

That's my experience. Call your airline, and they'll tell you their specifics.

Only did the travel thing several years ago when DD was 8. We just got her a state ID, as someone else said. We were going ona Disney Cruise and were warned we may need to show ID often, and she wanted one too anyways! We ahd to go get tabs and some birth certificates copies, so she got her State ID. When we did have to show anything it was way easier and I didn't worry about unfolding the paper birth certificate, or it getting wet, spashed, dripped, etc in my purse.

You have to show a birth certificate to GET the state ID, so it was always fine whenever, for years later until it expired, that she needed it for anything else to show her age (She loved showing it at the movies to get her kid rate! LOL).

No you don't have to have any type of ID for kids within the U.S. We just got back from Florida and we have 10 yr old twins and they didn't need anything.

The last time we took a domestic trip we just brought a copy of their birth certificates just in case they needed to verify the information (since my son has my maiden last name I brought a copy of our marriage license just in case).

Tedsmommy has it! Just go to your local driver's license brach w/a certified copy of the birth certificate and get a state-approved ID made. It will NOT have your address on the child's ID - that info is left in the system for access by police and such and so that it does not make it easy for someone to track down a child in case the ID is lost!

My son is almost 6. We've flown with him at least a couple of times a year since he was a tiny baby. Except for a trip to Canada, we've never been asked for ID for him. You might check with your airline/travel agent, though, if you're concerned.

We fly with our kids every summer in the USA and never needed ID for the kids (now 5 and 2). Unless things have changed since last summer then you probably don't need it. I don't know about for a lap child since we always put ours in a seat with a car seat. When in doubt, call your airline.
