Travel Bed

Have to agree about the Aerobed. It does set up and break down easily--we have been using it with our 4 year old.

My friend got a travel tent bed from One Step Ahead for her 2 + yr old. It zips up and even helps keep the light out if you need it to be dark when he sleeps. She loves it and her son loves it so much that after they used it while on vacation for a week--they dismantled his crib and this travel tent inflatable bed is his bed all the time. He loves getting in and out of it and usually stays in it once he's zipped in it. I'm thinking of getting one for my son who is almost 2. Check it out online or in the catalog! Good luck!

They have several different types of travel beds for infants and toddlers.

there is a travel baby tent that you can buy that has an airbed inside. that way you can zip him in if you have trouble keeping him in bed. My neighbor has one and her two year old loves it. It zips up unti a little bad for travel. I believe one step ahead had them.

A friend just told me about a toddle aerobed. He and his wife have 2.5 y/o twins and they are all loving the aerobed. Sets up and deflates quickly.

We also had this problem. We used gates on either side of the bed. They make ones that will go the whole length of the bed. Our little girl is very long for her age and really grew out of her crib shortly after 2 yo. We bought a big girl bed and put the gates up, they slide under the mattress so are easy to remove. The ones we purchased were travel friendly, they fold up into a nice small bag. Good Luck!

We use blow up beds for our little girls - a much less expensive option is the toddler inflatable beds by marshmellow. I got a pooh bear one at costco for $13 and a princess one at target for $18... they have held up great, blow up quickly and the kids love them! Good luck - just wanted to tell you you can get theses beds for much less $ than leaps and bounds...

Try the Safety First Travel Trundle - very lightweight and portable, plus it still fits my 4 year old who is tall for his age. It can be put onto the floor or onto a twin bed and has 4 inch raised sides.

I have included the link for the travel cot we have used for my son since he was 2. He is now 4 (42 lbs and 43 inches tall) and we still use it a lot. We have been very happy with it. It is light weight, easy to carry and setup (no need to inflate anything). When we aren't traveling it stays and grandma and grandpa's house for his biweekly overnights. It is sturdy enough for him to sit on with a friend and probably your 4 year old. So it can be used for to watch parades or for outside concerts etc.

I was afraid that he would role out but the sides are slightly angled so he stays right in the middle. The first time I set it up I was concerned because it didn't "snap" together. I am so trained for everything to fit just so it made me nervous. However, everything has worked out really well. My son loves it and looks forward to sleeping in it when we travel, camp, or at grandmas. It is called My Cot, travel cot and I purchased it online from Leaps and Bounds.

I had a similiar problem with my small just turned 3 year old, and tried a variety of items before coming to a good solution.

Aerobeds makes a nice airmattress with special sides on it for infants. (Aero bed for kids). Well I was so excited about purchasing it but couldn't find it anywhere so asked for some opinions on a forum I am on. A woman wrote to me and told me that PVC can have off gassing issues that can cause illness and even death in infants ~ and the aero bed is made with PVC. I researched it and found evidence supporting her claim and began looking for a new solution.

I ended up purchasing the Regalo my cot (Amazon.com was cheapest) . It is a cot that folds up nice and small, and when set up it is only 7 inches off the ground. My daughter loves it so much that she even wants to use it at home. The first few times of use I put a padded blanket on the floor just in case she rolled off, but she didn't and she then transfered to a big girl bed at home a few weeks later.

If he had trouble sleeping on it, you might be able to find rails that could work with it.

Some other great things about the Regalo my cot... I ended up getting one for each of my kids. Since it holds them up till 52" long and 100lbs, we can use them for quite a while. My youngest is only 16 mo old, but she might be ready to give it a try around Christmas.

The Regalo my cot comes with a fitted sheet for the top, but I also made my own waterproof sheet and sleeping bags for them to sleep in (oldest daughter now, youngest daughter in the next few months).

I have a 3 year old and if we stay in a hotel, I let her sleep with me and bring a bed rail with us. If you get a cot from a hotel, put it against the wall and use the bedrail on the other side. I also have a small folding travel cot that folds up in a bag, it has a sleeping bag that pulls over the frame. I found a great travel bed at walmart.com called REGALO. It's like a little cot, low to the ground and perfect size. It comes with a sheet and a carry case.(when in the case it's like you are carrying a fold up camping chair)(I usually put a blanket under the sheet for extra added comfort)We have been traveling a lot lately and my 2 1/2 yr. old son (34lb) loves it. He calls it his special bed.
At about 2 my son started climbing out of his crib so we got him one of those Step 2 (I think) Race car beds. They are low to the ground and you don't need side rails. There is a little lip so you shouldn't have any problems with him falling out. Since we have had it my son only fell out once in his sleep and he never even woke up. He absolutely loves it. not only is it his bed for sleeping but it's cool too. They can be a little pricey so I would try craigs list or second hand stores.

wondering why he's not ready for a big boy bed?

We were in the same situation. Our son was very big for his age and we quickly outgrew the pack-and-play option. We got the toddler Aerobed and LOVE IT. It has raised walls so he has a hard time wiggling out of it during the night. It's easy to use and small enough to travel. We're still using it with our now 3 year old son. The best part is no matter where we go, he feels "at home" because we have "his bed."

They sell an air mattress for children its smaller than an adult one and it has edges on the sides so he cant fall out, it was in a magazine i get randomly called one step ahead try the web site. Good luck
