Toys Ideas for 7-Month-olds (Or Older)

Hello Ladies,

We're not huge fans of loads of toys all over the house and I've tried to stay away from a lot of plastics etc. and stayed pretty much organic and simple. But, we're finding that a few select items might really add to our daughter's fun as well as her development (she's played with some at friend's houses and enjoyed them, but also gets overwhelmed sometimes by too many options). As well as helping her enjoy herself and learn, it seems like some things might help give me a little break to work on dinner or make a call.

Grandma (a huge proponent of loads of toys and stimulation) is coming to town and wants to get her some things. I'd love to have some ideas of toys that you ladies have tried and find useful and fun. My goal is to just get a few great items and stop gramm from going crazy.

We were thinking of the baby einstein exercauser or something similar that you find better.. and any other ideas.

thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I tryed not to go crazy with toys... but we had a birthday party for my son and suddenly we have MORE than enough. I actually stopped using the excersauser when he was around 7 months, so if you don't already have one, I wouldn't spend the money. Here are a couple that are really great that will last you several months.

We have a leap frog stand up table toy - but there are things to do underneith for sitting down too. Very educational and my son LOVES it. (I tried to find it online, but I must have been looking in the wrong place)
You probably want a good push-around toy and some of them have really fun stationary activities too.
We also got this fisherprice Laugh & Learn™ Learning Puppy. This is great and he takes it everywhere!
Vtech also has some good educational toys.

I really like the activity tables for that age. It is great becuase they pull themselves up on it and play. My daughter is almost 9 mo, and she loves her. The rest of the "floor toys" she looks at, chews on and then on to the next. The activity table keeps her entertained with music, lights, buttions etc. She really thinks she is hot stuff standing at the table!

The Chicco ball pool. Online from target. My son has been playing in it for months and months. He will be 8 months in a week. Order one bag of extra balls and blow up the plastic pool untill it does go smooth and round.

I love our excersaucer too but it's for outside only now, he's been over it for awhile, he would rather climb now. I like how it keeps him out of trouble when I'm watering though. I would get it at a childrens orchard or used childrens store all ready put together!!!! It was really fun watching him discover how to make different sounds and manipulate the play parts.

I love the Habba toys. They are quality toys (I think made in Germany). We have a specialty toy store in Escondido that sells wooded toys. Maybe try and find a store like that!

Our favorites when my kids were little was anything by leapfrog. Baby Tad is awesome-we had to buy another one because he wore out! Soft fabric blocks are also good at her age.

I would get an exersaucer with all the doodads on it. It will free you up to get a lot of things done. She may not use it much past age one, but at least you can save it for your next child, then they can start using it around age 4-5 mos. I would also get a couple of toys that have lights and songs and a little educational. They are never too young to start learning!

table top toys. They often come in wood. great for a 7 month old to play and practice standing and pulling up. Your baby will be soon be too mobile to get your monies worth from an excersaucer. Although they are wonderful, our baby loved her bouncer and it gave me such peace of mind to have her safely in one spot while I could get a few things done. The table top toys are often seen in Dr.'s offices with little wood blocks and beads attached to wire and keeps kids occupied while standing. Great for your age range. And toddlers continue to enjoy the table top toy even after they have mastered pulling to stand and walking. Our baby loved playing with one at a friends house and we were able to see how it really encourages advancement in mobile skills.

HI, My son know 2 he loved the Exersaucer when he was that age! GO for it!know we pass it to another boy friend of us to keep on playing!
