Toy Train for Preschooler

My son has informed us that we cannot have Christmas without a train. I thought this would be a nice surprise for him Christmas morning. I am looking for a train that is either powered by remote control or plugs in and turns on and off. I am looking for one that can stand up to being manhandled by a two year old and a four year old. Please let me know if you know of a good train set for a preschooler. Thnaks.

What can I do next?

Hello,
I completely recommend GeoTrax. I have three children, 7yr boy, 6yr girl and just turned 4yr boy. We have had GeoTrax for three years and they are extremely durable. The children can configure the tracks although Mommy really likes designing them too!! I have always found them to be reasonably priced and several stores carry them. We love them.

Thomas the Tank Engine Trackmaster sets have the trains that are mechanized. They have a switch and they go around on their own. I have a four year old and he loves them. We also have the other kinds of Thomas (wooden and Take Along, but those are kid-powered trains).
He just loves all the trains and there are many to choose from.

My mom and step dad bought this train that my daughter actually rides on last year. She is now 3 and still rides on it! It comes with tracks that make a circle and with her being a train lover it was the perfect gift! It is called the 'Peg-Perego Santa Fe Express Battery-Operated Ride-On Train' =)

Thomas the Train has a set that is made for going around the Christmas tree. It even has a snow covered bridge. The train also is battery powered with an on/off switch. It is really cute and very durable!

My son seems to enjoy his Geotrax the most. It has a remote control stick and makes train noises. We are thinking about getting the new airplane set for Christmas - Costco has a nice one :)

Thomas the train is great. There are some trains with remote controls and others with just on and off buttons. My son was 2 when he got his first and none of them have been broken. He still plays with them all the time. The Thomas track master sets are great.

My mom bought my son Geo Trax and he has done well with them...he even plays with the trains off the tracks sometimes so enjoys them a lot...the nice thing too is that you can always add to it.
