Hi ya'll, I have a 5 month old boy who has really enjoyed the Rainforest Jumperoo activity center. I am wondering what to get him next, as I'm sure he will eventually get bored with it. He's not quite sitting up yet, and not crawling yet, so I'm at a loss for what I can do to entertain him. The jumperoo is nice because I know he's safe and I can get little things done while he's playing. Any advice for what to shop for next? Thanks alot :)

Hi S.,

Our baby girl has only just passed this stage - she is now 7 months old. Five months is such an important stage because it will be when your baby boy is beginning to develop those needed muscles to both turn over, sit up and crawl. I would avoid to many exersaucer type things at this point because - although they entertain him, they don't allow him to build his needed muscles. I would encourage you to put him on a blanket on the floor - sometimes on his back and sometimes on his tummy. Give him small handheld toys that he can manipulate. Sassy has a gift pack of them that you can by online with Wal-mart.com that is real nice. I think there was about 10 or so, different stages of handheld toys in that gift pack. Anyway, if your little one is a little bored - it will only encourage him to move around and try to turn over and build those muscles which is great. Our baby girl started sitting up on her own at around 6 months and that really opened up the possibility of toys we could get her. We then bought stacking rings and shaped blocks and other various toys that she can grasp and increase her fine motor skills with. Best of luck to you - have fun!

My son is now 7 moths and LOVES the jumparoo also! I got him a safety 1st walker and he zips around the wood floors. Of course, I monitor him in it but it has really been fun to watch. As far as a smaller toy, my mom got him a little Leap Frog spin-a-letter thing. He plays with that all the time too. Good luck to you!!!

The excersaucer is nice and he will be able to use it for quite a while too.

And these spy bags are really fun toys for babies/toddlers as well.

Hi S.! The jumperoo will last longer than you think. I have an eight month old who enjoys it now even more than when he was five months old. Do you have some kind of excersaucer? That is fun, too, and provides time away from baby for getting things done. We have just gotten a "tot rider" (which is like a walker), a little tykes safety swing, and some musical instruments. Hope this helps!

A tummy/floor activity mat to encourage him to push up and scoot.

I got my daughter an "Around We Go" when she was four months old. It is a table filled with toys with a walker attached that goes around the table. She is now almost a year and has played with it every single day. When they can walk well on thier own, you just take the walker attachment off and they can walk up to the table.

my son still love the jumperoo and he is 10 months got it when he was 5 months.I would highly sugest getting a play yard.It is a life saver when you child starts crawling.I got mine at babiesrus but I think they are everywhere. Now I am not talking about a play pen. This is something that looks like a bunch of child gates connected it is an octogon shape when connect and you can buy extender if you want but it is pretty big without them.I am so glad I bought this.I just put a bunch of his toys down and I have my bobby pillow in there cause now he drinks out of a sippy cup on his own and I give him his sippy cup of milk and lay him on the bobby then he drinks his milk and gets up and plays after. It allow me to clean and know that he is safe cause when they start crawling they go evrywhere and then they start pulling up and nothing is out of the way.It will save you and keep your baby safe while you do what you need plus they have plently of room to crawl and pull up on the sides plus they can still see out so it doesnt hold them back from anything.
