Toothpaste Is Making Me Throw Up

I can't find a toothpaste this time that doesn't make me throw up immediately after brushing. I'm 10 1/2 weeks pregnant. It's my 5th pregnancy and I have always been adverse to any type of mint when I am pregnant. Before I could find some sort of kids toothpaste that wasn't minty, but so far all I can brush with is water and the act of brushing is even making me gag. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank You so much for your responses! I did go to the dentist had a cleaning minus the posishing (couldn't handle the taste). They also said to brush with just water, however, this still makes me throw up. I do have an electric toothbrush, but it still has a minty residue. I've been flossing every day. I'm going to try the baking soda w/ water mix tonight on that electric toothbrush to see if I can handle that. I'm also going to the natual health store to get the ginger toothpaste (especially if I absolutely can't stand the taste of baking soda) and chewing the "Spry" gum or getting a mouthwash. I don't chew sugarless gum because I believe nutrasweet is horrible for you, no matter how little is in a product.

I haven't read all of the responses, so I may be repeating what someone already said, but I've heard from friends that Cinnamon flavor helps. Good luck!

For me, it wasn't the flavor that made me throw up. I had to switch to a toothpaste that foamed less. It helped a lot, although I still couldn't brush my back teeth for a while. Colgate foams less than Crest, and I think I also had good luck with Tom's of Maine cinnamon toothpaste.

Hi, might I suggest baking soda, right out of the box? The contents are abrasive for cleaning, without the minty taste :-)

I had this same problem with both my pregnancies. I think the 1st time I ended up trying a cinnamon flavored one and that worked. The 2nd time was a little more chalanging. I think I eventually ended up using a vanilla flavored toothpaste. I know that Colgate makes a bunch of different flavors in their "expressions" line. I think they may even have lemon flavor. Otherwise from what I've noticed is that kids toothpaste either comes in bubble gum or fruit punch flavors if you think you can handle either of those. Maybe also even try the baby toothpaste made by Orajel as that has an even milder flavor to it. The only thing about that one is that their is no flouride in it. Hope this helps.

When I was pregnant, I loved and used the Thomas' natural toothpastes. The ginger one. It settled my stomach and tasted so good in the morning. I still like it...

I am currently pregnant, and I was gagging everytime I brushed my teeth also. It went away for me at about 13 or 14 weeks or so. So hopefully it gets better for you.

The only toothpast that I could stomach when I was pregnant was cinnamon flavored.

I am the exact same way with pregnancy and just had my second child 2 weeks ago. I just use plain ole water and my tooth brush, dentist said I didn't need toothpaste.

I had an aversion to mint with all three of my pregnancies. The last one was the only one in which I had a hard time brushing my teeth though. I used citrus toothpaste, I think it was Colgate but I can't remember for sure. It didn't have any kind of minty hint to it. I also got some vanilla mouthwash, that helped too.

I had that problem with my first. I found that a natural toothpaste like Toms of Maine worked better for me.
