Too Soon to Develop ?

No, not too soon at all, particularly if she is taller and/or heavier than average. I recall several friends having daughters who were developing at age 8/9. They wore tank tops under their t-shirts at first, then a camisole with extra lining at the top and finally training bras. I was at a 3rd grade lip synch contest this week and there were several girls who were clearly developing already.

Take her to the doctor. I can't tell you what it is. I haven't gone to med school and it's been years since I was a nurse. Even if I was still a nurse, I couldn't tell you what it is. Have her seen.

Get her looked at.
You need to check that this is normal development and not precocious puberty, which should be addressed by the doc.

Not too soon. I had nubs starting at 7/second grade. By 9/fourth grade I was already in a b cup.

it's certainly not too soon for her breasts to begin to develop, but what you're describing could be more than that (or not.) rather than fret endlessly, it only makes sense to get her looked at.
of course you don't want to panic or make her worry. you need to be calm and sensible and rational. a parent. you can be honest with a child 'it's probably your breasts developing, but because it's causing you some pain we're going to have the doctor take a look' without giving too much information and terrifying them 'i don't know what this is! we've got to get to the doctor and make sure it's not something awful!'

I remember getting my boobs around that age. Just the little knot, like you're describing. It took awhile for them to come in, but I clearly remember it being in 5th grade, so the timing was similar.

i guess when in doubt-get it checked out...you should never secound guess if you should take your child in..

Sounds like a breast bud. If you're concerned, have her see the pediatrician, but I'd bet it turns out to be a breast bud, which, at this age, is completely normal.

One of my daughters developed a breast bud at 7, so we did some testing to check for early puberty. Everything was normal, so the doc wasn't concerned. At 8, her breasts were starting to grow, she was developing hair in her armpits, there was some BO going on, etc. I took her to the ped again because it REALLY was puberty starting. Ped said at 8, it's normal to start these things and not to worry. Daughter got her period at 10 and now, at 12 is a C cup, just like her aunties at the same age, and STILL growing. She DID start early, but not SO early that it raised any red flags.

It's always nice to have peace of mind, so maybe a quick trip to the pediatrician might be in order. At the very least, your doc can have a chat with you and your daughter about the changes her body will go through over the next few years.

I was in a cupped bra at 9, 35 years ago. Not hormones in meat, genetics. So we're my sisters, my mother, and now my daughter. Some girls just develop early.

My dd has a friend who got her period at 9 years old in 3rd grade...many girls already had some "blossoming" at that age. My dd is a late bloomer, but girls do develop earlier now...especially if they carry a little more weight. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, so the heavier they are, the more likely they will develop early.

I'm GUESSING that it is probably a "Breast Bud." My oldest Daughter (now 22) got her first one at that age. Of COURSE you should double check with your Dr. though. I truly think that's what this is, and that she will be just fine!
