Tonsilectomy and a Picky Eater

My 4 year old is having a Tonsilectomy and possible adenoidectomy on Friday (they just gave us the date this morning) and he is a very picky kid. Unlike most kids, he does not like ice cream, pudding, jello or popsicles. It is a texture and temperature thing. Anyone have any other suggestions for soft good tasting food I can try before his surgery to see if he will eat them? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

My son's surgery went really well. The anesthesiologist today was the same one that did my hysterectomy in October. He was so sweet with him...he actually carried him to the OR instead of wheeling him in on a gurney. I have to say, shockingly, he ate pudding at the hospital. He was so hungry when we got home that he also ate most of a pack of ramen noodles. Thanks to all who replied.

My daughter hasn't needed one yet, but i actually just had mine done year before last. Better late than never, it cleared up ALOT of issues for my nighttime breathing, constant sinus infections, chronic ear infections, it was such a blessing. I lived on cream of chicken and cream of potato soup the first few days i could actually swallow then i went to strawberry popsicles and chicken noodle soup. i heard kids are much better with the surgery and recoup time than adults are, so no worries.

brocolli and cheese soup
mashed potatoes
instant mac and cheese
yogurt
mashed sweet potatoes (mix in some brown sugar and butter and they're amazing)
fruit cocktail (usually the peaches are really soft)

My daughter had hers done and amazingly enough I tried EVERYTHING and she would eat nothing. I had to take a child a I was watching at the time to school, and while I was gone, she ate 2 taco bell tacos!
Mind you, I am FAR from recommending this, but here are a couple of other suggestions:

Creamed Chip Beef, Soups, mashed potatoes, apple sauce, bananas, fruit smoothies, yogurt
Hope this helps

My 20 month old was eating chicken nuggetts in a few days!
For the first 2 days or so he drank PediaSure and ate jello. You can try chicken noodle soup?

My son had the tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy last year when he was almost 3. I would definitely recommend getting it all done at once- you might as well not put them under more than once if you don't have to. Basically you can give him any food that is soft, not just the ice cream and pudding.... Warm soup (no extreme temperatures)- even with noodles and rice. Mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, apple sauce, spaghettios... There are so many choices! My son ate eggs, soup and yogurt less than an hour after the surgery and never stopped! The important thing is to keep them hydrated and as long as it doesn't hurt them to eat it, the doctor said it was fine. He was actually supposed to stay overnight in the hospital since he was so young and they let us go that evening since he was doing so well. It was amazing- he was running around playing hockey when we got home (not the best idea, but it is hard to keep him down!)... The surgery is harder on us as moms and I was so stressed beforehand but he has been so much better off for it and I am so glad we did it! Good luck!

Of the top of my head...

apple sauce
watermelon
icee
tomato soup
broth soups (chicken, beef)
