Toddler's Clothing Size - Just Curious

Hi ladies, I have a 3 yr old boy who is about 90% in height and 50% in weight. I usually have to buy one size up for tops (4T), but same or even down size for bottoms (the 2T pants I bought him earlier fit him perfectly now. 3T's are about 1.5 inches longer). His legs are not particularly short. So I'm just curious if anyone has the same experience. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! I know the question is silly but I'm glad to see so many feedbacks. I used to buy from Children's Place and now swithced to Gap. The Gap stuff is definitely larger than the Place's. Also I believe the pants are more difficult to fit. I have to pull most of the elastics out (abt 4 positions on each side) to fit him around the waist even the length is right. And if you are smaller around waist, the pants will sag a little, thus adding a little length. Anyway, I never imagined this fun to dress boys!!

I have always had to do a different size for my daughter. She has a longer torso than legs, so she's average height because they even out. I am the same way and always had a hard time with one piece swimsuits because of it. She is almost 3 and in 4T shirts and 3T pants. All her dresses also have to be the shirt size so they aren't too short because of her torso.

I go through the same thing. My son just turned three and he wears size 5T tops and size 4T pants. Seems to me that the pants run longer and the tops run shorter for some reason. You're not alone.

Most definitely! He's a 3T shirt, 2T pant and he's in the 75th percentile for height and 50th for weight.

I think I have the reverse situation with my son. 2T pants are too short for him but the tops are just fine. I guess it may depend on the body type.

Oh yeah ! With both of my boys. I just decided that I wasn't going to get sets of things and did seperates. They are still like that to an extent. I just bought the stuff that fit and didn't worry what the sizes said.

Try Hannah Andersson, too. It's roomier than most brnads, holds up really well but is expensive. But you can get some great deals on ebay.

I am all over the place with my son cloths. 5T to size 4/5 xs and 6 s. He is only 3. This happens a lot. :/

Hi,

My son is 2 next month and he is in 3T tops and 18month pants, some 2T pants, some 2T's pants are way too long on him though, depends on the brand. He is also 90% in height and 50% in weight.

My almost 3 year old is in the 80-90% for height and weight. He wears 3t or 4t on the bottom and needs a 4t on the top. I think it all depends on the shape and size of your child. Don't put much stock into a size number just buy things that fit and it may vary by brand.

It depends a bit on the kid. But both my kids will wear a bigger size top than pants. My 4.5 year old son has always looked a year older than he is (in 2T clothes between 12 and 18 months). I am buying him mostly size 5 pants and 5/6 or even 7 shirts/jackets so there is room to grow. My daughter is 20 months and is average height and slim. She still fits 12 months shorts and capris but now needs the 18 months length in the pants (even though I have to take in the waist of most). I may just give up and sew her some cute, easy to make pull on pants.

I have 2 girls, 7 & 5. The 7yr old is tall & thin, like a ballerina or dancer, needs size 6-8 on shirts depending on style, 7/8 on dresses due to torso length, & size 6 on pants mainly for length of her legs. However, with shorts or capris, where length is not so critical, she can still fit size 4T waist, & some 3T shorts.
The 5yr old is shorter, & stockier (think 5yr old linebacker). Not overweight, just bigger frame. She is pretty steady right now with size 5/6 on just about everything. Pants are sometimes a little long, but needed for waist size. Size 6 for dresses. Currently wearing size 11/12 toddler size shoes. 7yr old is in girls size 2. Weight wise, they are pretty close. During this next year, we feel the girls will end up in the same sizes. Then who knows what will happen by next summer.

My son is huge for being 3 (bigger than most 4 yr olds we know). When he grows he starts to get a belly then weeks later he's skinny and about 2" taller. Not to mention he got stuck with my family's big feet. So clothes and shoes are always a big issue...I feel like I constantly shopping for new clothes! And now that he's gotten taller again I'm pulling the stuff I thought was to small back out again, except all his pants are an inch or more too short.
I live in a small town where the only place to shop is walmart, so there's not much choice on what to wear, nor do they stock the specialty sizes. You have to remember that most clothes made nowadays aren't made to fit the average person, plus different brands choose different templates to go by...No matter what size your child is you'll always have to go with trial and error.

My son isn't yet 2.5 and is wearing 3T. I had to buy 4T for his Halloween costume. He is 37" and about 36 lbs. There are a few 2T pants that still fit him, but he wears cloth diapers which add a little width. I think in 2 months the pants will be high-waters. I stick with one store where I know how the clothes fit him and just buy what he needs, whatever the size. I usually have to roll up the pants for the first little while of wearing though.

My 2 1/2 yr old is starting to move into 4t, and I figure she will definitely be there by Christmas. She is 36 inches tall and 35 pounds so high in percent for both h and w. She still fits in a few 2T pants though.
