Toddler Has Itchy Scalp

My daughter has been complaining for about a week because her head itches. I checked for lice but I didnt see any eggs or bugs, but what I did see was a really dry scalp with lots of flaky skin. Is there any home remedies or OTC meds I could use on her that could alleviate the itching?

What can I do next?

It may be a common scalp dermatitis that you can treat with dandruff shampoo. You might try a little Selsun Blue. Our pediatrician said it was safe to use on infant cradle cap. Just be really careful not to get it in her eyes because it will burn.

Hi Y.. I'm sorry to hear your daughter is having this issue. However, I think I may have a solution for you. Have you tried Arbonne's Baby Care line? I would highly suggest trying the Hair and Body wash, and even the Body Oil on her scalp. It is absolutely fabulous! The body oil works wonders on cradle cap and may really help with the itchiness. I have adult clients who suffer from Psoriasis and children who suffer from eczema both who use the ABC hair and body wash in place of their shampoo. If you're interested in learning more about these products, you can check out: www.mandyolsen.myarbonne.com. I'd also be happy to give you some samples to try to see if they help.
Good luck!

I'm not sure if this will work for your daughter, but when my youngest daughter was 2 years old, I put an all natural lotion on her scalp. It has helped many people, including myself, with itchy skin/scalp. Ambroderm can be bought only through Associates, like myself, not in a store. If you don't live far, I can deliver it to your home or I can mail it to you. Whichever is easiest for you.

Both my girls had an ugly dermatitis on their scalp. Great big hunks of dead skin was just coming off in sheets. It looked gross and they said it was itchy. I used all the OTC dandruff shampoos recommended by their pediatrician, but none of them worked.

Then, I took them to get a hair cut at Cool Cuts for Kids and they sold me a bottle of Tea Tree shampoo by Paul Mitchell. In just two shampoos, the ugly flakes were gone. I use it on them once or twice a week and the problem has never returned. I gave a bottle to my mother who has bad psoriasis(sp?) and it has helped her as well.

Try it! Just remember it's not a "no tears" shampoo so make sure she keeps her eyes closed when you rinse.
