Toddler Costume ... Looking for Something Without a Hood or Mask

How about instead of Danny Zuko, a rock star. Fake tattoos, some spray color in his hair, some jeans, maybe even a little guitar. =)

The jacket doesn't have to be leather. You can go to a thrift store and find a dark denim jacket that will work just as well. You might even get lucky and find a leather one for super cheap. Since you already have a cute idea, just improvise with the jacket.

try to find a black winbreaker type jacket and then sew one silver studs.

My kid (almost 3) is going to be a karate kid. I also have the problem with no hoods and masks. In addition, I think my kid would also hate wearing plastic or polyester all day. This way with karate kid outfit, he can move easily and its made of cotton. I got the top at Goodwill, the belt online, and I am just using black cargo pants on the bottom. He's just not quite ready to be in a fancy costume, i think this is the mose he will tolerate for now.

Just don't have him wear the mask. That is what my kids always did...

I second the thrift store idea and keep to your original idea, sounds cute. You might have to go to a few but then you can always use the jacket when it gets cold.

What about Woody from Toy Story (basically just a cowboy), Phineas or Ferb, Handy Manny?

mine is going to be a cowboy. he loves cowboy hats though. or a ghost. white t shirt and white face paint hair doesnt matter at that age.

Just purchase what you like and do not pace the hood or mask on him.. I was at Costco yesterday and their costumes were fabulous..

try looking for:
M&M costume
even try making your own costume like a lego block, or a ghost or something

How about dressing him like Elvis?

My two year old is going to be superman, he doesn't like the masks or hood either. The superman costume is basically pajamas with a cape. Most superhero's are similar.

Also I saw faux leather jackets at Target the other day...you may want to check.

I dressed one of my sons as an Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when he was 2. I just used green hairspray for his hair and orange water color for his face. He was fine with it all. It won every contest too. I also dressed my smaller son and daughter as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss. This was great for little guys because it is just a red sweat suit and blue hairspray for the hair.

If you want to go the Danny route then I found a leather jacket at Wilson's leather and at Harley shops. I have not been able to find one anywhere else. They are super expensive at the leather shops though.

I have a couple of suggestions for you...

Last year, my 2 year old was a vampire.... I didn't think he'd let me put makeup on him.. but when the time came, he watched me as I put it on in the mirror. I only used white gently to make him look pale (not caked on!) and put a little bit of red right next to his mouth. He wore a plain white long sleeved shirt, black pants and I made a small little cape for him. Oh yeah... I also spiked his hair on top! So darn cute!!!

This year, we bought a costume at Walmart - Lightning McQueens pit crew. It has a hat, the outfit and a little piece for his ear (but honestly, you probably don't need the ear piece). The hat is just a baseball cap. Very simple.

for $20- on line I love that Idea.
