Toddler/Children's Furniture in Chicagoland

You should definitely check out IKEA, either in Schaumburg or Bolingbrook (?) although I have been told Schuamburg is better organized. We are going out there this weekend (I hope) because I have not been lucky in finding an affordable but durable dresser for my 21 month old. My kids are very rough on things and the dressers we have from IKEA stand up to them very well. But of course you have to be willing to put things together. A friend of mine refuses to do taht and spends a ton of money on furniture that has not lasted. BTW, I will looking into the place in Lombard already mentioned. Always great to have a source.

I am in the same boat and you! I have spent the past two days looking around. We bought our nursery set at Lil Deb N' Heir 2.5 years ago. I went there yesterday, and could not find a tall dresser under $1000! I was shocked! I know his set wasn't THAT much a couple of years ago. Seems they have really raised their prices, though the furniture is good quality, and we are happy with what we bought.

I also tried Darvin (Orland Park) today. They are having a 50% off sale right now, and I found a few things that were ok, but nothing I was excited about. Still, I think it's worth checking out for the sale.

Also tried Dania. They only had about 4 choices, but one was great- I really liked it. The price was right too. I was very disappointed when I tried to pull out one of the drawers- it didn't glide- it just seemed really cheaply held in there. Not good when you have kids climbing in, out and all over their furniture...

Tomorrow I might try the PM Bedroom Gallery. Other than that, I've been pretty bummed myself. PBK is just out of my price range. I might have to start looking online. Please let me know if you find any good places- I'd love to check them out.

I just purchased a new bunkbed for my son from Cribs to College Bedrooms in Naperville ( across the street from the mall). The store is awesome, they have everything. I even got a new comforter from there. They have cribs (so many cribs I wish it had been there when my oldest was born), kids beds, older kids stuff, stuff that is totally pottery barn look, and tons of other cool beds. I would highly recommend checking it out, I can;t imagine that you would not be able to find what you are looking for. Good Luck!

We found this great place Rooms 4 kids! It has fantastic furniture it is in a warehouse in the south loop. we bought my daughters set there and it is of fantastic quality, it is adorable and the price was right. the owners are very fair. id definitely check it out. the bed we bought is almost identical to a pbk bed at half the price. they advertise in the chicago parent so im thinking you should be able to google them.

Check out Crib & Bed Outlet in Lombard. It's no muss- no fuss, but carries some very nice lines. It's much more reasonable than Pottery Barn or Land of Nod. Plus, most things can be delivered within 2 weeks. My husband and I just purchased a "big boy" bed for our 2 1/2 year-old, and we previously purchased a Best chair w/ glider.

Just a different thought for you...we went to Room and Board for both of our kids. They do have a kids line, but we actually ended up getting them classic bedroom sets for anyone that they can enjoy for many many years. You can always 'kid up' the bedroom with the sheets and decor, so the actual furniture doesn't need to be kid related. And, for the quality of furniture you receive from R&B, I think their prices are very reasonable!

Before seriously considering PBKids, do some research on their terrible catalog customer service. I ordered a few things online (considered part of their catalog division) and got some of the worst customer service ever, despite them messing up my order and refusing to do anything to remedy their mistake. I totally got screwed out of product and money and will NEVER shop their online/catalog division again.

Seriously - do a google search on PBKids and their customer service and also check the BBB regarding their rating. It isn't pretty and I wish I knew the problems I had were fairly common.

Fortunately if you do find anything PBKids that you like, go visit the store and do everything there. The store-side and catalog/online operations are separate and I've had excellent experiences in-store, particularly at Oakbrook Court.

A friend of mine is co-owner of a children's furniture store. The store is HUGE, so there is a big selection.

Try Cribs to College in Naperville. It is on rte. 59 just north of Aurora Ave. Their web site has the furniture brands they carry.

We got good quality and sale priced items from the old Marshall Field's, which I guess is Macy's these days. Not sure how they've changed or what they have available now, but worth a try I think. We had a bunk bed that lasted over 10 years with our boys, who eventually outgrew it, and dressers that have really lasted too.

I don't know where your at but there is a Pottery barn kids and Land of nod store in OakBrook Center (Mall) in Oak Brook and there is also a Macy's Furniture and Walter E Smith like a Block down from the mall!
I like to make things EZ so I thought since there is so many options in a small area this might help!

I bought my son his from Stanley Furiture. The youth furniture line is called Young America. I got it through a designer, but it wasn't too expensive. I know that Carson-Pirie Scott sells it through their furniture store. I would imagine other big retailers sell it as well.

Also there is a Land of Nod outlet in Gleview not far from Kohls'Childrens Museum. Of course their inventory varies but you can always call and see what they have.
