So What Happened?

I called the Doctor's office to ask why they had told my husband that the baby didn't need to go in until she was two. The nurse I talked to said that whom ever told him that was way wrong. She did need to go in at 15 months. I have scheduled her an appointment for Thursday.

L., she should have had a checkup at 15 months. She was probably due for some immunizations at that time. You might call her doctor and find out if you should go in now or wait for the 18 months. You should definitley get her a flu shot at one of the many free clinics that will be going on soon. Be sure to ask for a child's flu shot for her that does not have Thimerosol in it (a mercury based preservative). Children's flu shots should always be Thimerosal free, but by asking you will let the doctor know that is what you want always. If you get a flu shot be sure to ask for one without Thimerosol also. Take care, K.

Hi L.-
I believe that my son had the MMR shot at his 15 month check up. It would be best for you to call your doctor and see what they say. It is important that shots are given at the right times to be their most effective. The next time that you go to the doctor ask for a schedule that you can post on your fridge or see if they can make a reminder call to you before your next appointment.

My doctor told me my son would receive the opposite of what Deanna said: My son would have a normal checkup at 15 months, and then shots at 18 months. I think I'll skip the 15-month checkup if my son seems healthy, and just go to the 18-month visit for shots.

It should be! For my daughter, she had check ups every 6 months until she was 2. Then they are a year apart, unless you need to be seen sooner for something like illness or shots. =0)

Have you called your doctor to see if they need to see her and when? Certain shots have to be done within a certain amount of time to be effective. They would be able to tell what shots she needs and when. Hope this is helpful!

This is the schedule I got from our pediatrician for my two year old. These are shot schedule/check-ups. You did 12 mos. where you get Hepatitis B/Hib shot, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varivax which I think is chicken pox vaccine. At 15 mos. DTAP, Prevnar, Influenza (flu). At 18 mos. Hep A shot. At two years second Hep A as the first and second Hep A have to be 6 mos. apart. And then checkups every year after that. At three years I was told she gets another Hep A and then at four years old she gets a polio shot, DTAP and MMR again. And then other than illness, I think checkups are limited to once a year. Hope that helps.
