Subject pretty much sums it up... Makes me nervous but her hair is always in her face and it is all one length- just above her shoulders....

What can I do next?

Noooooooo I agree with BB it's not cute. Some may think their kids look cute but anti bang moms are cringing. :) Sorry bang moms! Use clips or ponys at the top.

When I had bangs it was more maintainance than not having bangs. Bangs will always be growing into her eyes, and you'll have to keep trimming them every few weeks. It'll be easier to keep long hair out of her eyes with elastics, barrets, hairbands or braids.

She's your daughter. But since you are asking, if she has the straight across the forehead bangs with the rest of it long and one length like Dora the Explorer, no I do not find that cute at all. I think it's very unattractive and makes a kid look dumb. Just pull her hair back or use barretts.

Hi S.-

I have to appeal to you as a daughter who had her bangs cut...

And 're' cut...

And corrected to about 1/4 inch by my mom when I was 4 ish.

The pictures are cute now (she actually did this TO me through first grade).

I finally found a mother's day card for her a few years ago that sums it up nicely...

The front of the card said, "I love you mom".

The INSIDE said, "And I forgive you for cutting my bangs"...

Needless to say...I have 3 girls...and NO BANGS!

Lots of bows...pony tail holders and barrettes over the years...

BUT NO BANGS!!

lol

best luck!

I wouldn't. My oldest is 25 months and hasn't had a single hair cut yet. She's learned to move it if it's in her face. We also use headbands or cute ponytails.

I always used head bands. I know their hair grows fast but both my daughters insisted and then hated them immediately.

No bangs. I was more determined then my daughter to not have bangs. It took only 1 day for her to realize if she pulled out the ponytail rubber band I was going to put it back in her hair.

If you decide to cut her hair just make sure they are thin bangs. I never understand how a mother could cut her daughter's bangs starting at the top of her head. Know what I mean???

I would just put it in a pony tail or use a barrette.

My two year old barely lets me brush her hair, much less put barrettes or ties in it to keep her hair out of her eyes. So she has bangs for the time being- and i think she looks absolutely adorable.

I personally wouldn't. I cut my oldest DD's bangs about that same age and we kept them until she turned 4; at 6 we are still working on growing them out. They are long enough to pull back, but they don't stay as well as the rest of her hair. My youngest DD just turned 2. At 18 months, she would sit on the bathroom counter with her feet in the sink and brush her teeth while I pulled her hair into cute little piggies on her head. She looked adorable! I used the tiny elastics from Walmart in the baby section to hold her hair. I used water for any flyaways and a comb, then pulled the top section back into either 1 offset pony or 2 piggies. Now she will sit still(ish) long enough for me to braid that pony. Her hair is also long enough to pull it all back into a pony tail. I found a hair blog that has tutorials for toddler hair. So cute!! http://www.babesinhairland.com. Just my experience and two cents for what it's worth.

Good luck with your decision, Mama!

I had my daughter's bangs cut because they were always in her face and she looks adorable.
EDITED - I am actually a little ticked that people are saying that my kid looks "dumb" or that my kids hair is "cringe" worthy.
It's not. I put a picture of her up as my profile pic, and she IS super cute.

It's just hair... it grows back :-). Cut the bangs if you want to!

DD has never had bangs, we've always just contained her hair with a clip or ponytail holder.

Hair grows.

If the hair in her face irks her, than maybe get bangs cut.
But what about the rest of her hair? It must get in her face too... the length of it etc. Which is common for little girls.
Just make a pony tail.
Or pin it back.
Or use a headband.
Easy.

My daughter is 10 now. She had has bangs. She looked cute. Then she has had her hair grown out and all one length. That was cute too.
And she always wore pony tails. Or braided hair. Or she used headbands.
No problem.
Hair grows out. It is not permanent.
But if you make bangs for her... maybe have a professional do it so it is not all crooked and too, short. Then that will look awful.

I think you should follow her lead. If she seems like she would resent having to have something in her hair all the time to see, then cut them. My daughter didn't haver her first bang cut until this last summer and she turned 3 at Halloween. Her 14 month old brother had his hair cut at the same time. It just depends on when they need it. I cut their hair because they kept pushing it out of their eyes and it was mean to make them have to squint to see. Maybe its how I was raised because both my mom and grandma would throw a fit if they couldn't see our eyes. I also get headaches if I have stuff in my hair for too long or if something is blocking my view. I say if it will be better for her then cut them; even if it looks dorky, her vision is worth more than cute pictures 20 years later.

You can also have the sides tapered so that the bangs are not the square or straight Dora style; and if she has curls then bangs look adorable.

For me bangs = maintenance. Plus I am a firm believer that hair cutting should be left to professionals so maintenance = $$.

Neither of my girls have ever had bangs. They both hardly ever pull their hair back too. We around it by parting their hair on the side; therefore no hair in the face.

My daughter's hair is the same way, and I did end up having her get bangs done at that age. She is now 5, and still has the bangs. She looks cute and I don't see what the big deal is. She wants to grow the rest of her hair longer, but whenever I ask her about keeping the bangs or growing them out, she wants to keep them (they get trimmed to just a bit above her eyebrows and it's usually every 6 to 8 weeks). At 18 months she would not have tolerated anything in her hair (head bands, clips, elastics, etc.) so bangs it was.

It's just hair...

If cutting it makes you nervous, just pull it back.

I cut bangs for my daughter when she was maybe 14 months old or so. She was very wild curly hair and won't leave a clip or headband in. If you don't trust a stranger to do it, search Youtube for videos and you can attempt it yourself. Just go slow and cut a teeny bit at a time.

I don't know why you shouldn't get her bangs cut. Hair grows fast. Bangs are cute on little girls. I don't understand why it would take 4+ years to grow them out. And if you like them, it's easy to trim them at home. My granddaughter's bangs at that age grew long enough to include them in a pony tail in just a few months.

Personally I am a big fan of bangs. I am aslo a fan of the page boy haircut that kids used to sport in the late 70s/ early 80s. If she has straight hair, and won't tolerate the hairdresser, you can do it yourself. Google the scotch tape method. It helps you get an even finish.

My daughter never left pony tail holders, headbands or barettes in her hair. When she was 14 months her bangs were down to her nose. We got them cut at a kid's-oriented place and now she loves getting them cut every few months.

Usually they will let you keep the hair from the very "first" cut.

I say, whatever makes your child comfortable.

Believe me, this is from a mom who never had a say in her own hair style.

Have it cut by a professional...doesn't have to be expensive -- In our area we have "Super Cuts"....there's probably something similar if they are not in yours.
