To Diaper Genie or Not...

Yuk, I hated it. We ended up using walmart bags, tieing them up tight and putting them in the trash in the garage.

I have a diaper genie II, and I hate to say it, but I don't really like it. With the spring action thing that keeps the stink out, you actually have to push your hand down into the sack a little to get the diaper to go down. So, if your baby ever has a really full one, there's a chance you'll get poop on your hands as you push it in. It does help keep out the stink, but if you've got something else that does that, I'd just stick with that. Hope this helps!

Let me just say that I have used both the Diaper Genie and the Diaper Genie II during the last two years. The first one broke after about 18 months - it worked pretty well at keeping odors at bay (not perfect, but okay). The Diaper Genie II is horrible! It is basically just like a trash can, as it doesn't seal or twist the bag between diapers. The bag and all its contents fill the room (or two) with 'that' odor every time you put a new diaper in.

My suggestion would be to take it to Babies R Us and switch it for the original Diaper Genie.

I think until the poo starts stinking (around the introduction to solids, unless you formula feed and then it's stinky from the get go), either one is fine. When they got stinky, we ditched the diaper genie and just put the diapers in plastic bags in teh garage. I was not keeping poo diapers in the house at that point.

we used the diaper champ, no special liners, and no stink. WAY easier to use......

2 1/2 years later with twins and two diaper genies, the genies are still going strong. We only use the genies for #2 diapers, so the cost of refills is not that bad.

My husband swears by the Diaper Genie since he takes out the trash. I love it too since my baby's nursery doesn't smell like dirty diapers. I have some friends though that cannot use the Diaper Genies. For your sanity and ease though you are going to want some sort of diaper pail near the changing table- especially in the middle of the night.

My baby is now almost 8 months old and I have used the diaper genie 2 since she was born. It works great and I really do not go through that many refill cartridges (maybe 1 every month or so). Keeps the smell out and is super easy to use.

I love the Diaper Genie II. We use it only for poop diapers and my husband takes it out weekly when the trash pick up occurs. We put tee tee diapers in a small trash can and empty it nightly when we take out our household trash. It works great!

Personally, I never liked the diaper genie. I usually threw the diapers in a trash can in the garage.

Stick with your original plan. We wanted the diaper system that uses trash bags, but my in-laws thought the diaper Genie would be best. We used it some when my son was born, but none when my daughter was born. The bag system is expensive, and hard to cut with the cutter in the top. So now we use the regular trash. I will be selling it or trying to give it away.

Keep the Diaper Genie I love mine. I broke mine one night and I was crushed so my husband ran to Target that night and bought me a new one....

I would not recommend the Diaper Genie, however would recommend a diaper pail (it makes life a lot easier than taking out a bag everytime you have a diaper change). We currently use the Diaper Champ and I love, love, love it. The bags that go in the Diaper Genie are so expensive and with everything costing so much today who doesn't want to save a little money. The Diaper Champ, on the other hand, uses regular trash bags, grocery sacks or we use the medium size trash bags from Dollar General. They are the perfect size an only $1 for a role of 48 bags. I think since my daughter was born a year ago I've bought 5 rolls of bags.

You may want one in the beginning as you are going to use a TON of diapers. And the odor - whew! We used the diaper champ and it worked great! I like it better than the Genie as it's easier to insert the diapers, plus it takes regular trash bags so there wasn't the extra expence of having to buy the special 'Genie' trash bags.

I love the Diaper Genie II. I think people either love or hate this thing - we've found, though, that disposing of diapers any other way leaves a bad odor in our house. The Diaper Genie seems to work great for us.
