Tiny Little White Bumps on the Outer Edge of My Daughters Nose

They won't pop, they don't itch. In fact, they don't seem to bother anyone but me! :-P This has been going on for about a year now and the one time I mentioned it to the doctor, they had actually gone away for a little while. The doctor acted like I was strange for asking and didn't give me any indication of what it might be. Right now they're worse than ever (as far as quantity). Any clue as to what this could be or how to treat it? I've tried over the counter antibiotic ointment and that didn't help at all.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of the advice. After doing a little research, I think it is milia. I Googled it and that's exactly what it sounds like. I had never heard of it before, but I will definitely be talking to the doctor about this soon.

It could be Moluscum. They are viral and can be contagous. My son has them. Doc said they will go away in time. Problem is...they are unsightly in the face if they get big. I noticed last summer a few of them went away on my son's face and I'm guessing it was the chlorine in the pool that dried them up or something.

Take a pic of them and email them to the dr. He can probably tell you what they are by looking at the pic and you won't have to go in

My daughter had those on her nose when she was little. My doctor said (this is 1987) that they were just the results of hormones left over from me in her system and they would go away. Just like you, they only bothered me. After several months, just like my pediatrician said, they went away. She's never had them since.

I was going to respond that it could be Moluscum as well. My 10 y.o. son had it on his back last summer and it was treated w/freezing like warts. Doc also prescribed a topical treatment; not sure if it was preventative or for healing process as we had to return for about 3 more treatments.

My son had the white spots on his face about 4 yrs ago, the derm' at the time treated him for acne (at 6???). He was a quack anyway. when I researched the moluscum, the photos were of the face, but I don't know if the freezing is good for the face since it does leave scars. The new derm who did above mentioned treatment is FAB!! He's in the Clear Lake area and I'd be happy to make a recommend'. We've used another inside the loop (2 offices). He used to be at Texas Children's. I loved him as well, but the location is inconvenient. Feel free to PM me for the name of both.

Hi H..
Not sure which Daughter you are talking about but they all seem to be old enough to experience acne, etc. My Daughter is 10 and was getting little white bumps, too. We were going to take her to a Dermitologist but a friend of mine suggested using face washes, first, in the event that it was a form of acne. Try having your daughter wash her face at least twice a day using Buff Puffs and a mild face wash, such as Clean and Clear or Basis. She should also use a light moisturizer with sunscreen after each wash. It may also help if she washed her face while showering. If it's a form of acne, it should alleviate within a couple of weeks. If this does not help then I would have her visit a Dermatologist.

My daughter had something like that when she was younger, she is 8 now. The doctor told me they were a form of a pimple that a lot of babies get. Just leave them alone and they will go away on their own. I did and it only took a little while for them to go away. you were talking about little white bumps on the face of a baby, right?

It sounds like a condition called milia, plugs of keratin present in half of newborns and usually go away by three months of age. Since your daughter is much older and they haven't disappeared by now, I would consult with a dermatologist. Good luck.

I wouldn't do anything or try anything with out first consulting with a dermatologist. It could be totally harmless and needs to be left alone.

Hi H.,
I am an Aesthetician. They may be milia, or calcium deposits.
They will not go away until they are extracted by a professional. They are very hard to extract, but it can be done.

Amazing how many people think you are referring to a baby.

Well my 5 year old started having BO about six months ago and she's been wearing deodorant!! Now she has a white (pimple?) something on her nose and I'm itching to pop it. LOL So I am wondering if it IS acne since she started smelling earlier then most little girls.

My youngest is 7 and she has broken out on her face, it looks like little whiteheads. Her Dr. says it is a virus that lives in the skin and that they usually go away in a couple of months and there is no treatment..

omg, they're white heads probally, On the corner of your nose kids tends to miss that detail work. I would by a cleanser or and some astringent and show her how to get that detail work done. If this doesn't clear it then it maybe something else. My daughter gets them when she stays out late and doesnt wash her face at night. My son gets them on his eye lids till I told him to wash his eye lids with a wash cloth too. Hope this solves your problem

I'm not sure if it's the same as what we experienced with my daughter, but she had the bumps around her eyes. Her doctor said there's nothing you can do about it and they'll go away in 12-18 months...which they did! Just like you, it bothered me and no one else! There is a name for it (can't remember what it was), but they can spread if she scratches them, etc. So, we ignored it and it did go away! :)

H.--Your daughter needs to go to a dermatologist. The white bumps are deep cysts that are sort of like pimples, but deep under the skin. (I'm 58 and I still get them!) The dermatologist can not only remove the cysts, but can help your daughter with a cleansing routine that can help prevent more from developing. Hope this helps!

Hello H.,
I was told it was a form of Milia (sorta white heads)> We came up with our own solution and it really worked for us. When we put the baby down for the night or a nap we put a little Desitin on the area. It worked great.

Hope this helps,
D.

Hi H.,
My now 12 year old daughter (today) has the same issue. When she turned 11 they got worse and spread to right under her eyes and top of her cheek. I felt the exact same way, the only one it bothered was me. The doctors never quite gave me an explaination even the dermatologist. He did however say that they would go away on their own and there was nothing we could do about them. But recently she began to break out around her scalp area and she started using an acne wash. Although, the bumps did not look like acne just white, but would not "pop", they seem to have reduced in number and size. Don't know if this will help but it may be worth a try.

Sorry H., but after I read this the first thing that came to my mind was my own childhood and this was me....so what I think about now that I don't live with my parents anymore is Who smokes inside the house? That was the problem with me. I had three sisters and I was the only one who reacted this way to my parents smoking inside the house. It wasn't untill I got married and we had two children that I began to smoke also and in the house. Our youngest child started having skin problems and break outs very early in life and I knew right away it was from me smoking inside the house, the car or anywhere around him. I began smoking only out side and quit all together 3yrs. ago. I wish I would have been stronger and smarter years ago. It was hard to quit but I regret ever starting. I don't really know if this is your sittuation at all. But it is just the first thing that came to my mind so in a way I felt maybe I was ment to share this little story with you. Hope you figure it out soon. Good luck.

Your pediatrician probably was just acting like a deer in a headlight rather than thinking you were strange for asking...just strange for asking him/her. I would take her to a dermatologist for answers. They could be calcium deposits.

My poor kids had those periodically on their cheeks. I was so obsessed that I took a sterilized needle and broke the skin and squeezed them out. They are relatively hard pieces that come out all at once. Then I treated the area with antibiotic ointment. The thing about the ointment is that it won't get in unless there is an opening in the skin. I am not recommending that you do this, just telling you what i did. Never had any scarring or pocking from it, they healed perfectly.
