Time to Burp the Baby!!

I'm back for more great advice.
My daughter only drinks about 4oz/feeding every 4 hours. Lately when I take the bottle away to burp her she screams and jerks herself back and forth on my lap. But then after a few minutes of trying to get her to burp she doesn't and then she doesn't want to finish the bottle. When she does then finish the bottle she still doesn't burp but she doesn't have any painful gas afterwards. She uses the Dr Brown bottle and gets gas drops at every feeding. She is also on an alimental formula so it is very gentle on her tummy. When do babies get past that needing to be burped every couple of ouces phase? Should I just let her finish as much of the bottle as she wants and then burp her?? Thanks again.
T.

Well I guess every baby is different. My daughter will be 5 months old on Jan 18th, and she drinks 5-6 ounces every 4 to 5 hours. She drinks the entire bottle non stop and I burp her only after she finishes. I get a burp out 98 percent of the time. Try to see if she will finish the bottle non stop. If she is too full and needs to burp, she will stop drinking. From birth to 3 months my daghter did this, She would stop at like two ounces, burp, then drink some more... but if she can drink the whole bottle non stop, dont stop. Maybe thats why she cries, because she wants to continue eating. Trsut me, if she has gas and needs to burp, she will let you know.

I had a similar problem with my daughter when she was younger. She wouldnt scream when i took the bottle away but she just wouldnt finish it either. So when she was about 3 1/2 months, maybe even earlier, i just started letting her finish the whole bottle. At 4 months, babies are getting better control of there muscles. When theyre able to sit up on there own they really no longer need to be burped. She's probably getting very close to that stage and she's old enough to just finish the whole bottle and be burped once afterwards. And if after a whole bottle she doesnt burp its not a big deal. We dont feel the need to burp after every meal we have so chances are if your not getting one there's nothing there to let out! Believe me if she has some gas in there, she'll let you know!

hey T....well for my girls i stopped burping around four months i found out around that time my kids would do it on their own.
so you can try that so she can +finish eating and still continue using the gas drops or just try burping her when she's done drinking her 4 oz.

My two boys didn't burp after about two months old. As long as you see that she is handling eating w/out burping then My suggestion would be to let her go!

Hi T.,

My duaghter is now 6 months old and I couldn't tell you exactly how long it's been but for a while now she has "preffered" finishing the bottle "when she's finished" and ready to burp. So now I just let her drink as much of it that she can and I burp her afterwards. I had the same problem at first...taking it away, trying to burp her but with no success and then she wouldn't finish it and seem to be a little on the cranky side for a while afterwards.

Other than that...Is Nick your husband? I work where he works (per diem) and I used to work with him someplace else a long time ago....If you are who I think you are your little one is absolutley gorgouse!

You don't need to stop to burp her anymore. That's pretty much for new newborns. As long as she doesn't have any tummy pains I wouldn't worry about it. Let her feed on a bottle till she's full then burp her. Have you ever heard her burp on her own. If so then she is just fine.

As long as she is not getting a belly ache or spitting it up afterwords I would give her the entire bottle if she wants it. I use the Ventaire bottles and I too was trying to burp when she wanted nothing to do with so I just let her go and finish the bottle and she did fine...Just try it and see how it goes. Good Luck.

Been there, done that! My daughter WOULD NOT finish her bottle if we burped her halfway...I hesitated to stop trying to burp her but once I tried it, she was fine and took a full 6 ounces with no problem which led to her not needing a bottle as often. I'd say your daughter will be fine, try it! Four months is old enough, in my opinion. Keep me posted!

I would let her drink as much as she wants (within reason) and then burp her. If she acts like she has gas pains afterwards, then you know next time to not let her drink quite as much.
Good Luck!

Hi T.

I never did the burping in between bottles. I let my greedy daughter drink the whole bottle then burped her. She was not into the drink some burp some method. It worked for me.
