Tilted Uterus

I was wondering if any one has had trouble conceiving that has been told she has a tilted uterus,I think it's just hereditary ,My mother and sisters have both been told they have one to. My husband and I have been trying for 2 years now to get pregnant and have twice but with both ending in miscarriages 5-6 weeks later. I'm just wondering if this may have something to do with my uterus being tilted or not, My Dr. doesn't seem to be concerned. I read once there is different positions during intercourse that are better for conceiving with this problem. Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks to everyone for the input, I will try and be patient

Hi, I have a tilted uterus as well - I have had NO trouble what-so-ever getting pregnant. My first pregnancy resulted in mis-carriage at thirteen weeks and I have had two perfectly normal pregnancies since...So there is LOTS of hope! The only thing that I really noticed about having a tilted uterus was when we could hear the heartbeat with the doppler (much later than others). GOOD LUCK!

Hi, I have a tilted uterus and don't think it had any effect on conception or delivery.

I also had a few miscarriages but they think that was due to a small septum in my uterus that was fixed and then I conceived my daughter.

I went to a top notch fertility specialist in SF and she never had a concern re: my tilted uterus.

HTH!

I have a tilted Uterus and it took me nine months to get pregnant. I think it was cause I was on the pill for 8 years. Good Luck to you.

My sister and I both have a tilted uterus - I had no problems conceiving, and she did. I don't think it had anything to do with the tilted uterus. My sister still ended up having 4 kids even with problems conceiving. It took her 3 years to conceive her first.

It sounds like miscarrying is more of a problem than conception for you.
This may be something to try - or it may be an old wives tale - but it has worked for a couple of my friends - to take false unicorn root daily to help prevent a miscarriage. A more medical view is that miscarriages are caused by an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone - with not enough progesterone being produced by the body. Under the direction of a physician, you could try a topical progesterone cream. Also - some people think that an overgrowth of candida yeast can cause miscarriages. I would consult a natural health practitioner about this - getting rid of it involves getting all sugar and refined flour out of the diet.

Infertility can be one of the most heartbreaking things to go through - hang in there - and good luck!

I was told the same thing years ago but did nothing about it. That Obgyn said it could be corrected with surgery. When we did try to have a child it took us 4 years to conceive child #1 but I think it was hormones out of wack. My new obgyn did not say anything about a tilted uterus. We conceived son #2 in less than one year.

L.,
I can't remember the first time that the Dr. told me that I had a tilted uterus, but it was early in my trying to get pregnant the first time. My grandmother had talked about how she had one and had a few miscarriages so it scared me. After my first child I had one miscarriage (well it wasn't ever a viable pregnancy as there was just a sac and not a baby), then had 2 other children. I just had a miscarriage in September but my Dr. really blamed it on being 40 years old. I was told to never worry about the tilted uterus and since I have 3 perfect children didn't even think about it with the last miscarriage.

So, Long story longer (haha), I wouldn't worry about it, since there really isn't anything that can be done and you know that you can conceive, then it is all up to God after that.

Hope my rambling helps a little, you aren't alone!!

Hi L.,

First, my condolences on your losses. My doctors have told me that I have a tilted uterus. But I have never been told that it would affect my ability to conceive. I have two children.
I don't have any info about different positions affecting conception, but it sounds like fun.

Hi L.,
I also have a tilted uterus as does my mother. I don't think it has any thing to do with fertility as the uterus is a really just a place and it's tilt shouldn't matter. Also since conception doesn't happen in the uterus itself, I can't imagine that what you do during intercourse could correct any issues the tilt may be causing. The only thing my doctor has told me abouat a tilted uterus is that you're more likely to experience "back labor" (contractions feeling like back pain) because of it's position. Good luck and you may want to talk to you dr about other causes for the fertility issues.

I also have a tilted uterus. Have known about it since my first GYN exam before I got married. My OB/GYN said it shouldn't matter when we wanted to get pregnant. I have two children 7 and 4. It took about 8 months to get pregnant with my son, and 2 months for my daughter. No miscarriages in between either. Looking at your profile, you say you are 35, so your eggs aren't as young as they used to be. Could that be a factor as to why it's taking longer?

As for different positions.........well, just be creative and you might get lucky!

Good luck with the baby making!

I also have a titlted uterus and am currently pregnant with my third child, and while my Dr did say it might make it more difficult to concieve (my first pregnancy took about 9 months or so of trying), I do not know if it has anything to do with causing miscarriage. I would discuss your situation with your doctor again, and if you still don't feel comfortable with him/her and their answers to your questions, maybe you should find someone else. Good luck.

I also have a tilted uterus, the way it was explained to me is that it's just another variation of normal, sort of like some people have a crooked pinky and some don't. I've never read that it could be a problem by causing miscarriages. I think I would see a fertility specialist to rule out any other problems that might be causing the miscarriages. Also, when we're trying to get pregnant we know right away when we succeed, but supposedly more pregnancies than we know end in miscarriage, we just never knew we were pregnant. If you've been trying for two years though, a fertility specialist is the way to go.
