So What Happened?

well had a nurse look at it and they said there was no head in it. they told me what to watch for for lyme disease and rocky mtn spotted fever. they said if it gets a fever in it go back or a rash. if I get muscle and joint pain or extreme fatigue to go back.

If the head were still in there, you'd know it. It would be a bit swollen and red and you'd probably be able to see it a little bit. Unless it was a deer tick, because they are soooo tiny. Was it normal size or teeny tiny?

I have dogs and deal with ticks on us and the dogs all spring and summer and fall. The best thing to buy is a little plastic item called Ticked Off. You can buy it at many different places and they even have a website explaining it and how to use it. www.tickedoff.com. Now last time I posted a link it got pulled, so hopefully this will make it through, lol.

You always want to be careful that you don't separate the head from the body. I know their icky, but don't panic when you see one. I have several of these Ticked Off tools, all over my house and in my Jeep. One in every room! So I don't have to go running around like a crazy woman when I need one. Put it in a baggie before throwing it out. I don't flush them, I have nightmares that they will just swim back up, ewwwww. Lol. I wrap them in a paper towel and then put them in a couple of baggies, and then throw them away. Can you tell I hate them? <shudder>

Hahaha! Thanks Jeanne! Now i'm gonna panic stricken everytime we flush one! We live in the UP of Michigan and also deal with them all spring and summer. It's been a bad year up here too.

Yes, you would know if the head was still in your hand from the swelling. Also watch for a bullseye type mark...you'd probably already have it if you're concerned that it was a deer tick.

We just use tweezers to pull them out (or if you're my son and find it at school just use your fingers! That scared me but no problems with it. He does no now to get an adult!). My sure you grasp it as close to your body as possible and pull it back.

Good luck.

I would go to the doctor, just to make sure. Do you know if it was a wood tick or a deer tick?
Summer is awesome but ticks.......I am so sick of them!

Good luck!

If you are unsure I would take a quick trip to your doctor.
