Is the laughing from tickling a result from pleasure or pain? I know people like to tickle babies because babies laugh so much from it, but I for my part hate tickling. Let me know your opinion. Thanks!

I hate to be tickled and when I tickle my kids I do it lightly until they pull away. My oldest (now 13) would run from us but then come back and beg "tickle me tickle me" when he was barely old enough to talk. So he must have enjoyed it!

well i've never heard of a baby laughing with pain. baby's are very straight-forward little people =) if they are having fun and getting pleasure from the tickling, they will laugh. if it is painful or annoying, be assured that a baby will writhe away from you and scream!
my younger daughter, now 21 mo., has loved being tickled from a very young age. if i remember correctly, she was about 9 mo. when if you would tickle her and then stop, she would grab your hand and pull it to her tummy. definitely a sign she was having fun!

I always tickle my boys, the oldest (3 1/2 yrs.) i stop when he says stop, and the baby (17 mths today), i do small ones, just for a few seconds and give him a break, we play a game called the "bee", its where i make my fingers into a bee and and go buzzzz, and come to him (like the airplane trick to feed), and tickle his neck, he loves it, both my boys do, expecially since they know i will stop if they say, plus they like to get me back also. That said, my husband hates it he says it hurts, and he told me that his older bros and cousins used to torture him, so that is why we have the rule stop means stop, anyone who doesnt listen doesnt get to play (that includes any family member outside the house also.). Now i have heard that tickling causes kids speech problems and stuttering, im not sure if this is really true or if its an old wives tale. I hope this helps, it can be fun, but you have to respect them as well, and what they want you to do.

I have never tickled any of my babies until they were old enough to tell me to stop, mostly because it physically hurts me to be tickled. I can't stand it!

You know more than anything I Think its the touching thats the most important.
I tickle my boys. We play and tickle each other all the time.
The come to me saying tickle me mommy. And its just a sign that they want to have some physical contact.
I LOVE HOW THEY LAUGH WHEN THEY ARE TICKLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It comes from the bottom of their toes!!! A harty laugh that makes me laugh when they do it. I guess for me even when they are older and having mom fill their love cups up when they need a comforting touch they will remember that we have some good ole tickle times and they can always start on of those!

Sometimes i felt like i was being over protective lol but i personally dont like it because the babies cant tell u to stop? Like when grown ups get tickled they're like stop cuz it tickles? With babys i think you can do it to a certin extent. : )

My kids are older now but they used to love being tickled. Since I hated being tickled too much as a child, I made a rule that when they say "STOP", whoever is tickling them has to stop immediately - no exceptions. The kids even made a game of it - They'd say go and the tickling would start, say stop and the tickling stopped, and back and forth. I think it made it much more enjoyable for everyone knowing they, the kids, were in control. I probably started this between 18 months and 2 years. For now, I would just be careful to stop every now and then with your 14 month-old so he can catch his breath.
