I'm nursing and can't seem to get rid of thrush. I'm on my 2nd round of diflucan, have nystatin cream, vinegar wash... baby is on nystatin and shows no symptoms. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

ding ding ding!!

Gentian Violet has already been mentioned and whole heartedly agree!!

Gentian violet on the nipples and all around the inside of the cheeks (coat everywhere you can see pinkness!) of the baby. When done nursing, use a vinegar rinse and air dry - try to walk around without a bra or shirt while home. DO not put on any lotions around your breasts or baby and try to reduce or eliminate your sugar intake with beverages and foods.

I ended up using gentian violet (if that's how you spell it...) and Jack Newman's nipple ointment. I had the hardest time getting rid of it with my last. I've nursed all four of mine and he was the only one that I struggled with thrush...and thank goodness...had he been my first...and had I not known how good nursing could be...I think I would have given up nursing within a week of it! Good luck! And I agree with the airing 'em out thing...and the no sugar thing...you can also take probiotics...I was trying so many things...I'm not sure which one actually worked :p.

(As a side note...be careful of nursing in bed after putting gentian violet on your nipples...you and your child just MIGHT fall asleep...and your childs eye might just happen to rub up against your 'violet' nipple...and just might spend the next few days looking like he's got a black eye. Just saying ;)).

Threelac!!!! Google it, order it today, and take it! Also completely safe for babies, just give them half a packet a day. Ditch conventional meds for this, threelac is totally amazing, I tried so many things and it was the only thing that was seriously effortless and got fast results. Also get rid of sugar!

It's a tough one. Have you tried gentian violet? I think that's the spelling although I doubt it works better than the prescriptions you've tried. Let your nipples air dry as much as possible since the thrush thrives in a warm moist environment.

Have you eliminated ALL sugar from your diet? Thrush (yeast) can only survive if it is fed and sugar feeds it. You need to avoid not only sweets and fruits but white bread, white potatoes and anything that breaks down as sugar quickly. Yeast grows from the inside out so if you're actually seeing it then your body is eaten up with it. Some people think this is simply an irritation but if it lasts long it can start breaking down your immune system and diseases will have a easier time settling into your life.

God bless,
M.

Yogurt will help it clear up and keep you from getting it again if you eat yogurt regularly. You can also put it right on the areas that are affected. Try to keep the areas as dry as possible and I know this is easier said then done but try keep your stress level down, stress will throw off everything and can cause you do get it. Good Luck
