I am throwing a baby shower for my sister who is having twins. I want to make this extra special for her and they have struggled for over 3 years to have a baby. Does anyone have any ideas for themes, games, food, decorations, etc?

What can I do next?

When is the shower? I gave a dear friend of mine a shower after the baby was born(that's the way she wanted it), and since the baby was born near Christmas, I picked out a very special beautiful Baby's First Christmas ornament had it had it as a cake topper. It was beautiful, and she loved it!

Hi! I can't be much help in giving ideas for the party but for your sister....I would highly recommend that each guest be asked to bring a homecooked meal to put in your sister's freezer along with their gift. My friends did this for me and I only had one baby. It was the best gift ever.

best of luck

These ideas don't have much to do with a "twin" theme, but I always thought they were cute: Instead of streamers, string clothesline across the room and hang "laundry" which are baby outfits that mom can keep. Buy some mini rubber ducks and let them float around in the punch bowl. For a game have guests inspect the contents of their purse and write down how many "mom" things they have. For example: safety pins, crayons, paper, wet wipes, tissues, toys, hand sanitizer, diaper, etc.

A., I struggled for 5 years to have a baby, and my sister gave me a wonderful shower. Then after that sister tried for 5 years she had a baby, and I gave her a shower. This will mean soooh much to your sister, especially if this may/may not end up being her last pregnancy. I themed my sister's shower as "Under Construction." We knew she was having a boy, so I used dollar store dump trucks for holding all different kinds of candies like M&M's, chocolate chips, red hots, sweet tarts, etc. I got Tonka truck tablecloths from a nearby party store. And had road construction signs hanging above the gift table. Tonka truck birthday plates, napkins, and cups. Also, had Meijer make a tonka truck cake, complete with a plastic truck on top, pushing dirt around. I used legos, building blocks, and such as decorations also, and since I knew the name of the baby, I turned the alphabet blocks into his name as a pyramid by the cake. I made a Black Bean Advacado Salsa, and Tostitoes, mints, peanuts, punch, and my SIL helped to bring a fruit tree (toothpicks with individual fruits on a cone shaped tree). I copied off all those games that the older people like to do, and just left them on the table for their enjoyment....crossword puzzles, word searches, etc. Then I played the ever popular BINGO with baby items on it. Yes, and gave small gifts for winners, with each time a gift for my sister at the same time. But, the most fun game we played was Baby Pictionary. I had a huge pad of paper up, and two teams took turns guessing at what one of thier team was drawing. You need an music stand or something to prop up the paper. I also decided to make a list of all the people I had invited ahead of time, with a space to write what they got my sister. That way, everyone was accounted for, and I didn't have to write their names down again.

I also gave my SIL a shower. I did a game where I put a baby word on the backs of each person. They had to go around and ask yes/no questions to guess what what on their backs. Funny, and a great ice breaker.

A game we played at mine was pretty fun. Pass around a spool of yarn and everyone cuts off a piece they think would match the size of the expecting mom's stomach. Who's ever is the closest is the winner.

Hi A.,
Watch out with Twins! I have a set and I didn't have a shower for them because they were my 3rd/4th kids, but when I was throwing my cousin a shower I googled baby shower games and I can't remember what site it was on but the sell everything for 2 pea's in a pot. From invataions to plates, to games. It was so cool, I wished I would have had one at that point, but it was to late. Also the one thing your sister is going to need is Diapers!!! We went threw so many the first week we couldn't believe it. Now a day's it seems like everyone is having twins, so they have twins everything! I also found a twin ballon at the dollar store! I couldn't believe it I had been looking and then 3 months after they were born I found it, I bought it anyway! But good luck with the party, I'm sure she'll love anything!

We had a diapering competition- who could diaper a baby doll the fastest. This one is kind of gross but some people like it; put a melted candy bar in a diaper, do several different kinds and then you have people guess what candy bar it is based on looks and taste. As for decoration; A cake made out of diapers is one of my absolute favorites- it's a little time consuming to do, but it looks awesome and diapers quickly became my favorite gift to receive.

My sister in law had the same struggle and success. They lived a state away, but we threw them a video shower. Anyway, some games we did was we froze those little plastic babies in ice and made everyone write down how long before their baby is "born". Put them in a cup and pour water in them and let them sit while doing other things. Write down the start time or start a timer. We also played a game of memory with baby and parenting issues. For example: Breastfeeding, twins, mommy, daddy, babysitter, etc. Then whoever gets the match is rewarded with a candy corresponding with that issue. Milky way for breastfeedings, double mint gum for twins, life savers for babysitters, and tootsie rolls for dirty diapers. If you would like the list that I used, email me and I will send it. We also bought multiple things from like a dollar store to hand out that came in pairs or is called a pair. Like a pair of socks, earrings, pair of nail clippers, pair of scissors, etc. The dummy prize on that one was an actual pear. We also had them unscramble words that we jumbled like onsies or bottle. I hope this gives you some ideas.

There was a lady in our ward who had twins and they had to be in the hospital for a while. When they were both able to come home, some ladies in the ward had an open house for 2 hours at a time that was convienient for the twins' schedule.

For Games you could get some oneies and t-shirt paint/puff paint and let guest each decorate one. It's fun plus your sister will have lots of oneies which she'll need. You can melt candy in a diaper and see who can guess what kind it was based on sight and smell. Buy some baby food and remove the labels and have people guess what kind of food it is based only on looking at it unopened. A favorite game of mine was the host bought lots of little baby items hangers wash cloths a rubber ducky and she had five rounds of five items and everyone had to write down how much each item costs. The person with the most correct from each round won a small prize I got to keep all the baby things.

For food if you can come up with enough things serve things that are double. Depending on what kind of food your serving things like double stuffed oreos, twice baked potatoes.

A theme I've heard people do is a diaper party where everyone brings a pack of diapers sorta like a cover charge. But I'd decorate with Noah's ark to follow the two theme,

For my baby shower, my sister did a diaper raffle instead of games. She made a wonderful gift basket full of little luxuries (soaps, lotions, candles, etc.) To buy a raffle ticket, people had the option of bringing a pack of diapers... any size and brand. She put a cute little poem she found on line in the invite to let guests know of the raffle. It was great. I didn't have to buy diapers for months and had lots of different sizes and brands to try out to see which worked best for my baby. It saved me a lot of money and people seemed to really like the raffle idea over the baby games.

I have done the melted chocolate in diapers game which is fund but a little gross. The baby food game is also fun. But I gave a shower to my sister this last July and I went to the local craft store and purchsed some small baby items such as bottles, pacifiers etc. Then I put them in some ice trays and put water over them and froze them. Then I gave each one of the guests a drink with an ice cube in it. The first person to have the ice melt would then scream, "My water broke". The person that won would then get a small gift. Everyone has a great time with this one. I cut some yarn big enough to go over some one's head and made binki necklaces. Each guest received a necklace when they first came in and they couldn't say baby, my sister or brother in laws name, or the name of the baby. If someone caught them they got their necklace. Who ever had the most necklaces at the end of the shower, won a price. I also made a scramble of baby words. As for food, I just did salads, rolls, chips, had candy dishes all around people could eat. Good luck.
