Three Miscarriages

I've had three miscarriages and all of them at 6 weeks. One was a day before, the day of and the morning after six weeks. So the furthest we have ever made it in a pregnancy is the morning after six weeks. I have done all the testing possible, as well as my husband, and the only thing they found was MTHFR. I am wondering if anyone has experienced three m/c all of them at the same time in pregnancy and if so do you have a child now? I am pregnant for a 4th time and would like to hear some success stories:)

So What Happened?

Hi everyone! Your stories brought me to tears. I can't tell you how much it means for all of you to take the time to share your stories and have put me at ease knowing that someday I will have one of gods little blessings:) I have had several blood tests checking my progesterone and it has been great so we haven't needed to supplement it at this point. I was in a panic yesterday after we had an ultrasound and the doctor said the baby was showing 4 weeks and 1 day and I was 5 weeks at the time. I thought we were going to lose another baby but I soon found out that the size being off a week is normal but today I hear if my HCG levels are declining and then we know what's next:( I have faith that everything will be fine, especially after your stories!:) My father's grandma also said we have nothing to worry about and we are having a baby girl...kinda crazy but she said she gets feelings. I hope she's right:) Thank you again for your responses and good wishes and prayers! They are VERY much appreciated:)

Hey C.,
My sister-in-law has had 5 miscarriages and all slightly before 12 weeks. After the first two they discovered that she had something in her body (an antibody of sorts) that would reject the baby. So, after they discovered that they gave her medicine and she got pregnant and carried to term. She ended up having a beautiful little boy. She has had two miscarriages since and after the last miscarriage they discovered she had a septum in the upper portion of her uterus. So, if this happens again, have them continue to search. Additionally, have you been to see a geneticist? They can perform additional tests to see of there are any chromosomal issues between the two of you that would also cause a miscarriage.
Hang in there. From everyone I know who has been through this it's a continuing process of discovery until they can find the cause.
If it gives you any comfort, my husband and I have been trying for three years with no success. We finally got pregnant in April, using IVF, and are due in January. There is hope!

I had 5 miscarriages before my first daughter that I had in April 2008 (she was through IUI) after many tests, surgeries, etc. Crazy thing is that I am currently 6 mo pregnant with my second - it was a total suprise. So please have hope!!! The Dr. never found anything, except maybe a "small" septum in my uterus which was preventing the babies from getting good blood flow - they repaired it and I still had 1 miscarriage after. I wish I could give you a definative "this will fix it" - but I just don't think the science is there yet. My miscarriages were around 6-14 weeks.
Good Luck!!

We had miscarriages at 6 weeks, 8 weeks and 14 weeks, with our daughter born at 27 weeks. Some might not consider this a success story, but if you met our bouncy, happy, healthy seven year old, you'd see our success. Keep at it, babies come when the time is right for all concerned. And we talk freely about our experience with our daughter. She knows that three little souls came to our family who weren't ready to be born.

C..... this is from my non Mamasource friend who went through the same thing.....

Dear C.,

I am sorry for your losses. I was in the same situation as you, early m/cs (6) with MTHFR mutation (plus two of the other inherited thrombophilias). There is a link between the MTHFR mutation and immune disorders resulting in m/c. In my case, the immune disorder was Antiphospholipid syndrome. I was diagnosed by Dr. Carolyn Coulam, located in Chicago and also consulted with the late Dr. Alan Beer, whose practice still exits in Los Gatos, Ca. I'm happy to say I am a success story. Once I was on the correct protocol -- aspirin, Lovenox and IVIG treatments -- my next pg was successful and I now have a healthy 4-year-old boy.

When the Dr. says you've had "all the tests" and found nothing, that usually means the lab is not equipped to do proper immune testing. Check out these websites and feel free to write me directly, too.

I had 2 miscarriages before my healthy 2 year old son was born and one more after him. It's really hard and until I had him I seriously considered IVF with PGD. I almost went on the fertility drugs when I found out I was preggers. It was also tough when I had the 3rd miscarriage but I was already prepared for the possibility so it wasn't quite as bad. The first one was the worst since we weren't expecting it at all and we were crushed and blindsided. I know you must be feeling stressed and try to stay as relaxed as possible even though I know that's nearly impossible. It may have just been a case of bad luck, you never know. I will think healthy thoughts for you and your baby. Best of luck. :) Peace

I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriages, it's so difficult: one's hopes and dreams are destroyed in an instant.
I had two miscarriages right around 7 weeks. I now have a thirteen month old. I believe we waited about 4 months before trying to conceive again.
With the first one, I had a D&C. With the second, it aborted on its own.
Keep believing and trying.

Try giving your body and the pressure of becoming pregnant, a break for a while. You're going through a lot of emotions right now, mentally and physically. Rest, relax and when it's time for you to conceive in full term, you will.

Have you talked to your doctor about getting progesterone shots early in pregnancy? I have a friend who had problems with miscarriage early on and her doctor put her on shots for the first trimester to keep her pregnant....It worked and she's now 25 weeks pregnant.

I am so sorry. Best wishes to you for a healthy and successful pregnancy. I just wanted to recommend accupuncture. It has helped TONS of women and helps to build up the lining in the uterus, among other things. Not sure where you are located but a super wonderful accunpuncturist is Dr. Daniel Lee in Lake Forest/Irvine, off Bake Pkwy. He has a website as well that is very worth reading. Best of luck to you.

I had 3 miscarriages, all at about the same time as you have, in fact after my first 2 children, I had another, so I had a total of 4 miscarriages! I now have 5 children, all healthy and grown. There is hope for you. I feel your pain, but trust in your God, and know that you can have a healthy child!

Best of luck. You are welcome to stay in touch with me--I may be able to help ease some of that pain.

Many people do not know that they have this defective gene until after they have had several unsuccessful pregnancies. Others may carry one pregnancy to term and not discover until afterwards that they carry the defect. This mutation inhibits production of an enzyme, it can result in an elevated level of homocystiene, which is processed by the kidneys.
Here's some ideas for the next pregnancy:
1. Decrease or stop red meat ingestion, as it increases homocystiene levels.
2. Take more than normally advised of folate, B5, B6 and B12....the B viatmins helps process (get rid of) excess homocystiene.
3. Drink plenty of water to keep kidneys flushed.
4. Take a good calcium/mag supplement with little or no calcium carbonate, since peopel with this geen tend to have an increased risk of osteoporosis later.
5. If you have any swelling during the pregnancy, you may want to try potassium gluconate, or maybe A-C Carbamide to keep the kidneys healthy. Swelling can lead to high blood pressure and vice versa. You probably don't want to end up high risk or with perceived toxemia and end up being c-sectioned.
6. Regular blood tests can check for homocystiene levels, so have those checekd monthly to see where you are, so you can increase your B vitamins, etc as necessary.

My mom had 8 miscarriages. I was #9 and my brother was #10. Good luck!

Wow. congrats and good luck! I don't know of any specific success stories to match your specific condition but I have helped many women get pregnant and have very healthy pregnancies and healthy babies, via nutrition. If I read your email correct you had a methyl tetrahydrofolate reduction? or is it s/thing different? as MTHF is the only way your body needs folic acid - and it's not found that way in food, only in 2 supplements. Glycogenics and Max Stress B. Perhaps I'm reading the 'condition' you had incorrectly - if so my apologies.

In any event, the best way to assure a healthy, successful pregnancy is to assure just that - health. Cell phones, computers, wi-fi, cell towers are a huge negative impact on a person's health, so definitely DO NOT carry your phone in your pocket or ON your body as you'll be pulling calcium from both of your bodies. Furthermore, assuring your pH to be alkaline and that your baseline nutrients are all in tact would be the best way to assure you are exactly where you need to be for both of you. Spectracell offers a nutrient analysis from blood that you can do rather inexpensively to find out where your nutrients are at and which ones you might be deficient in. (for the record 100% of the tests we have completed have shown some nutritional deficiencies.).

Good Luck and if you are interested in more info on the health aspect of your body, you can checkout our website or stop by our Wellness Center.

Again, congats and best of luck!

I had three miscarriages as well. At 5, 6 and 7 weeks. Just after I got pregnant the fourth time my OB put me on baby aspirin and progesterone supplements and this one stuck - although I thought she'd stick because my HCG levels were much higher with this one compared to the three miscarriages. We ended up with a healthy, beautiful baby girl who is just about to turn 3.

I know how hard it is but hang in there. Take care.

There is a website www.tcoyf.com where some women suffered m/c's because of MTHFR. They all did Heparin for successful pregnancies. I don't know if you're seeing a reproductive endocronologist (RE), they can put you on a protocol to KEEP you pregnant. I would also recommend getting an OB referral from your RE, so they can work together...they don't always agree and it's frustrating. I always confided in my RE, because they know how to get and keep you pregnant.

I'm so sorry about your losses!

I am sorry for your losses. I had three miscarriages, went through a lot of testing and 3 doctors. The third one was wonderful and re-ran some of the tests that the other doctors had done, but more thoroughly. He found that I had MTHFR as well as a pro-thrombin mutation (another clotting issue). He put me on a baby aspirin a day immediately, then progesterone after I knew I had ovulated (as a precaution - we didn't run the tests, but he thought it could help), and then an injectable blood thinner (but this was more for the pro-thrombin mutation, as I remember, the baby aspirin would have been fine for the MTHFR).

I went in for more frequent ultra sounds so we could make sure all was okay, and, in the last month for some fetal monitoring.

I'm not one that usually likes to take any meds and it all felt strange at first, but, in the end, I have a beautiful, healthy little 17-month-old girl and I believe I have my OB to thank for it. He was amazing, comforting and well-informed, he's a fertility specialist as well as OB. He's in the BH area if you'd like his info. (along with western medicine, he is open to alternative ideas as he supported a doula being with me during birth - the doula association voted him ob of the year).. not that you asked anything about a doc, but thought I'd mention!

Good luck.. stay positive and listen to your intuition.

All the best,

Roxane

I had two children when we decided to try again. Getting pregnant was easy, keeping the baby inside was a different story. I had two miscarriages and they were from 6 weeks to 7 weeks. When I got pregnant again, we did not want to tell anyone and I did not want to believe that I was pregnant until the baby was on my chest. He is now 7 and his sister followed surprisingly 18 months later. I actually bled with her and I didn't even know I was pregnant.

Dear C.,
My heart goes out to you. I had one miscarraige, then a baby, then my second almost miscarried and my OBGYN prescribed progesterone suppositories and he is a healthy baby boy. Thank God. I read a lot about those suppositories and read success stories with similar situations to yours. If you have not taken them, ask your Doc. I wish you the best and try some affirmations, which I did with my pregnancy and they all came true.
For example, "I have a healthy full term pregnancy", "I give birth to a healthy baby", and say them out loud every day, several times a day, visualize it and feel it with every cell of your mind, spirit and body and it will happen.
I wish you all the best to you and your baby!
With Love,
E.
