Thoughts on Toys...

It's not really a question but a thought... has anyone except for my husband and myself and a few others we've talked to noticed how hard it is to find basic toys? Of course I am all about technology and etc...I mean I wouldn't be posting to an internet board if I wasn't, but whatever happened to hands on interactive play time with babies and kids? You can find the toys, but there are so few of them that don't light up or something. We want to give our son an even mix of toys, and I've seen a few websites where you can find the basics, blocks, balls, etc. for babies, but I just thought I would open the subject up to see what others think...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I got some really great responses and you all lead me to some websites that will help! I am glad to see that I am not the only one who feels a little more focused on "old fashioned" ideas would really be good for a lot of babies/toddlers/kids, not just mine. :o)

I am a Certified Child Development Specialist and I think you are so smart to want a mix of toys for your little one! Too much time spent on fast paced electronic toys and TV is part of the cause of the increase we are seeing in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and in the social skills problems kids are having so much of these days! Blocks, crayons, balls, Tinker Toys and similar toys all help a child's overall development. Here in Norman, we have a wonderful toy store called Kidoodles and I believe their website is www.kidoodlesloveskids.com. They have a wonderful toys geared to helping children and their intellectual and physical development. So perhaps you could check them out. Keep up the good work with your son, you have the right priorities!

We thought the same thing with both my kids. We started hitting garage sales. Also there is this website/catalog that has a lot toys like that. It is ABC Distributors. You might have to google it find it but they have building blocks and simple toys that kids like. Good luck!
