We gave the Fisher Price one to my 3 year old daughter last Christmas. She loves it! I have been impressed with it too. We've only had to change the batteries once so far and she is always taking pics of EVERYTHING. (i.e., TV shows, the couch, etc.) It is nice because she can see the pics she takes and then we go through and delete the ones she doesn't like.

Sturdy is the most important thing. Professional quality isn't necessary at 4 years old, he'll have a blast learning, and it's impossible not to drop them all the time!

I bought the fisher price for my son this past week for his 3rd birthday in an effort to get him to leave my camera alone! He loves it! As long as you remember that it is more for entertainment and learing to use a camera, not for high quality picture taking I am sure you and your little one with love it to!

I really wish someone would make a decent camera that is simple and sturdy but it doesn't seem to be out there. I bought a Crayola one (made by Sakar) and the quality was horrible and it broke right away. At least I got my money back. So I did some research and a lot of people seemed to be dissatisfied with the Fisher Price and Vtech. So I bought my 6 year old a real used camera on Ebay for less than the kiddie cameras. It is a Nikon Coolpix a couple of years old and it has a nice chunky handhold for him. Now he is 6 and takes care of it. My 3 year old has a super cheap 35 mm (like 10 bucks) that I never put any film in that he is happy just clicking away on. It is really just like a pretend camera but he is satisfied. So probably he would like the Fisher Price or Vtech but he likes what he has so I'm not going to spend my money. Hope that helps.

hi i bought my daughter the vtech kidizoom in april and it still works perfectly. she dropped it thrown it it still works. it don't take real good indoor pics but takes some nice outdoors ones even for a 3 year old.

I bought a Polaroid Pixie. It is cute, has 2 eye viewer holes and includes games.

I wouldn't recommend it. The on - off switch is too sensitive for a young child. My son is 4 1/2 and rarely uses it. He prefers the real one where you can just look at the back instead of looking through the two eye holes!

Someone recommended to me the Fisher Price or the Vtech but I haven't tried them yet.

I also found that the disposable cameras are fun, too...but they are a pain to have them developed and you're not quite sure what the pictures will look like. My son has a blast with them though, so to me it's worth the cost!

Good luck and post back if you find a good one.

we have one of the fisher price ones and i am considering buying one for my younger son this year - its great!! easy to operate and understand - its been dropped i dont know how many times still working great -here is the thing i REALLY like about it is that it holds an obscene amount of pictures - like 1000 or something - which my husband and i agreed was PERFECT for kids b.c they "snap away" randomly - plus it has a memory card that you can take to walmart to get developed. also- fisher price also has cases for sale (sometimes toys r us has a combo pack with them) and its a hard zipper case - so its very protective and bc. its from the same company it fits perfectly -

hope this helps!

Hi C.. Both my boys (almost 3 and almost 6) have the Fisher-Price camera and they love them. When you look at the picture on the little camera screen it doesn't look like much but they acctually look pretty good when transfered to the computer. And they are so indestructable. My guys have thrown them down a flight of stair on many occasions and they get dropped all the time and still work beautifully. I wouldn't hesitate recommend them to anyone. We love ours. We've had the first one for three years now and it still works. I'm sure your son will enjoy which ever camera you get him. I remember loving my old 110 camera from when I was little. Kids just seem to love to take their own pictures.
