Thinking About Seeking Fertility Help--looking for Dr. Recommendations

My husband and I have been ttc#2 for 7 months. I miscarried at 6 weeks after four cycles of trying. We waited a month and have now tried twice after m/c. First baby was conceived the first time.
At my age (29) I know that they advise to wait until you have tried for one year. Because of charting etc...I feel fairly strongly that there is more at play here than just bad luck/timing. Does anyone have any recommendations for a doctor? I had prenatal care and delivered with the CNM's at Riverside Women's Clinic, but I am willing to look elsewhere, for good help.

What can I do next?

Secondary infertility is not uncommon. I saw Dr. Nagel at Reproductive Medicine Center. It wouldn't hurt to make an appointment and just keep trying until you get in to see him. His nurses are awesome and I never had to wait around for appointments. He is a pioneer for fertility treatments at the U.

A good friend saw Dr. Malo at the Center for Reproductive Medicine. She liked him a lot.

Good luck!

K.,
My first daughter was a complete surprise so we had no issues conceiving her. We decided we were ready for #2 when she was about 16 months old. I thought we'd get pg right away since we didn't even try with #1, but my cycles were all over the place and I discovered through charting that I wasn't consistantly ovulating. I went in to my OB and was started on Clomid right away, even though I was TTC under a year and was 27 yrs old at the time. Clomid was the magic pill for me, my second cycle on it I conceived my second daughter who is now almost one. Secondary infertility is common. If I were you I'd see your OB and ask about Clomid so you can get the show on the road. Good luck to you!

I went through a yr of fertility help. I sw meny dr. I would start with your ob to get all the test done because then most of the time your insurance will cover. But I went to the midwest center for reproduction in Maple grove. I loved them I had gone to two other centers that I thought just went throught the steps. Like a and b didn't work so we are on to c. I went in there and the DR desided that the meds I was on where wrong for me and changed everything. Well guess what I got pregnant the first month of trying with him and now have a new born son. If you want to talk please feel free to e-mail me I know how hard this can be. Also I already had a daughter it is very common to have fertility issues with other pregnancys.

A couple of things from my experiences with miscarriages:

1. I was told by my fertility doctor that your body needs to rest and recuperate after a miscarriage and that you really shouldn't try to get pregnant again for at least 6 months. That way your body can rebuild nutrients and heal from the trauma.

2. Also, it takes the average couple 6 months to get pregnant, so the fact that you were pregnant after 4 cycles of trying is really good.

I would give your body some time to rest and then start trying again. Did you see a doctor for your miscarriage? And to make sure that you didn't have any clots left over and that everything was expelled? That can be VERY important.

You can always go see a doctor, but many will do an initial assessment and then most likely tell you to come back one year after you started trying after your miscarriage, not before.

Good luck with everything. I know how difficult it can be when you are trying and really want a baby. I had 2 miscarriages and waited a year and a half before I finally got pregnant with my son.

Check out Diamond Women's Center. Their website is www.diamondobgyn.com. They are great at what they do and are experts in infertility.

Since you conceived once I wouldn't think you'd have fertility issues. You know? Um...maybe the timing is off or something. Anyway, I went to the Comprehensive Healthcare for Women in Woodbury, MN. They are great there. They take baby steps to find out the problems but within a couple months or so of testing I conceived due to Clomid. Good Luck.
