Thermometer Recommendations

I'm looking to get a new thermometer. Since my 4 year old was born I've used a digital thermometer under her arm. She's gotten to where she doesn't like that method and isn't good at keeping it under her tongue. Also, in less than a month I'll have a newborn in the house. Which is better, the one that you put on their forehead or the one that goes in the ear? Our pediatrician has both and they both seem to work fine but I'd like the opinion of a few other mothers. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I love the forehead one! So easy to use and you can take a sleeping childs without trying to put it under the arm or putting it in thier ear.

The thermometer that goes in the ear is not always accurate. The thermometer that scans over the forehead is a bit expensive (around $30 to $50). But it's well worth the money in the long run.

I just got a no contact thermometer that seems to work good so far. You just point at the forhead and click--so easy a caveman could do it. and no squirmy baby to hold down

The ear one is difficult on children. You have to hold the ear out, and my 4 month old never wants to cooperate. I really want a forehead one.

My daughter's Allergy/Immunology doctor has the forehead scan. I wish I could afford the arm/mouth thermometer my doctor uses on me because it's a fast-read, but it costs like $200.

We have the Exergen temporal scanner that slides on the forehead. It is fairly accurate and we've been using it on our son since he was born. He is 8.5 months old now. My son always pulled on the underarm one and was very fidgety with the ear thermometer as well since he liked to see what was going on as well. So this was the best option for us.

I love the ear one and so does my son. We had the one for the forehead and every time he saw me get it he would scream and fight me. He will go get the ear one for me when he does not feel good now that he is older. The new peds office has the forehead one and he will not let them near him. I take my ear one and we get the same reading.

We got the one where you can roll the thermometer on the forehead. Ever since I first went into labor and the nurses used that on me, I wanted one. They have those at Babies R' Us and it's safe for toddler and newborn.

We use the forehead one. I am always surprised that doctor offices still use the ear one because I have found them to be very unreliable. I myself prefer the forehead one...when I don't feel well, I don't want anything in my ear. :)
