Hi!

I'm looking for a good thermometer to use with my nine month old boys. I can't seem to find one that is consistent, let alone accurate. What brands have you used that are good?

I use the Braun thermoscan ear thermometer (which I got from Target) and I am very happy with it. It's so easy to use, and seems pretty accurate. In fact, I noticed that a hospital we were recently at used the same (or very similar) thermometer.

I use the thermal scan thermometer (from Wal-mart). I usually scan across the forehead. It can also function behind the ear. All of the temps just need to be adjusted as some are naturally higher, etc. I believe the instructions explain the differences. It is a good option especially when the kids are asleep because it is just something tucked behind their ear for a couple of seconds. I have found it to be fairly accurate. I used to use a digital ear thermometer. I did not find that one quite as accurate. Good luck finding the right one for you!

When my son was in Luthern General for breaking his back in 3 places and crushing L1 I was shocked when I seen them use this "weird" scan thing on his forhead and then write something down. I asked what it was and they told me it was a temporal thermometer. After seeing this several times I finally asked a nurse where I could get one. She told me to go to Walmart and get this one... here is the link

It is what she uses on her kids and is suppose to be very accurate. The reviews are great for it! I have yet to get mine but will be after payday! It is suppose to be just as accurate as rectal readings and definately less invasive and that is important to me since I have to take my daughters temp often!

I have tried 2 different ear thermometers and NEVER have I gotten an accurate reading! Same with the pacifier ones or the ones you lay across the forehead. I have also tried the Vicks heart shaped sticker ones you stick under thier arms and can read all night long while they sleep- doesnt work! So until I get the new one next week I use 3 different ones to make sure I get an accurate reading and do 2 under the arm and one rectally and then average them out... it is a pain!

Let us know what you get and what you think!
Blessings to you and yours!

I actually use the VICKS thermometer that I purchased from Walgreens. I have tried the ear ones and they dont work. I was in need of one and this one was very inexpensive and works GREAT. Hope it helps!!

I just use the Braun ear thermometer. Although I don't think it's extremely accurate it does give you a good idea. I usually figure their fevers may about one degree higher than it states.
