GAHHH!! I've frustrated myself one too many times today and I wanted to see how other mothers feel about this. I have two girls but with "L" names and I have called each one of them by the other's name at least 4 times today. Ugh! Of course they are both at the age where they are correcting me "Mom, I'm "L" not "L" they tell me. I can't help but laugh but why oh why did I have to name them names that start with the same letter. Geez! Do other moms get frustrated with themselves when they do this? I know it happens to everyone :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Some of these are hilarious. I'm very glad that I haven't called them any of the cats' names. Especially since one of the cat's name if Voldemort - that would be funny though. I definitely am not worried about this I just get frustrated with myself. Half the time I've forgotten why I'm calling for the one child by the time I actually get to their name. It's just funny.

My boys names didnt start with the same letter their names are Josh and Sam. Sam always got called J'sam...

My husband said his mom used to go through all 4 boys names by birth order when she was scolding them.

I doesn't matter -- My kids names aren't even close to the same, and I still mix them up. And I throw in my husband's name, too. "Hey you!" is probably the easiest!

Oh honey, I mix up my kids names all the time - and one's a boy and one's a girl!!! I figure I'm a step ahead of the game as long as I remember their names at all!!! lol!!!

But yes, I would say this happens to everyone!!! Best thing is to just laugh along with your daughters and don't make too big a deal about it.

I used to just call my kids by funny names; then they never knew if I was getting their names wrong or not!! Still works for me - and they're in high school now!!!

Fun question!!

My mom still calls me and my sis the wrong name. She also calls all three of her grandkids each others name. Just chalk it up to the million things running through your mind at any given time. No harm, no foul.

Lol...I have resorted to "M, C, whatever your name is!!" My five year old corrected me the other day..."Mom, I am not your pumpkin pie! HE is your pumpkin pie, I am your snuggle bunny!" He never comments on "whatever your name is," but I better get that nickname right!

Are you kidding me? Welcome to motherhood! LOL My mother did the same thing. She had 3 of us growing up, 2 boys and 1 girl named Mike, Rick and K.. It's like the Bill Cosby routine, "Whoever you are, come here... here.... here!" I have 5 kids with 4 still living in the home named Jason, AJ, Jamison, Emma and Jacob. I do the same thing and yell, "You know who I mean!" LOL When we had just the 2 boys and a dog named Mollie I would call my sons Mollie and the dog by the son's name. I've even called my kids my husban'ds name and vice versa. It's all normal! And I've had my granddaughter here for 3 weeks named Kayla. I've called my daughter Emma and my granddaughter called by each other's names as well. Everyone just laughs and thinks I'm losing my mind when I do it, just like us kids did with my mom, lol.

No, I don't get frustrated. I just understand my grandmother better. I've called my children by the dogs' names before.

I think it would happen whether their names started with the same letter or not. I do it to my two kids on occasion - a boy J and a girl S.

My MIL ALWAYS calls my husband by his brother's name first. Always. And they are 36 and 39 years old. She knows calls her three grandchildren by each other's names all the time too. Just habit, I guess. We all think it's funny.

My Father was an "L" and so are my sister and I.

My Father would not only call us by each other's "L" names, but the cats
names, the dog, whatever name popped up in his brain first. By the time he was done, he was no longer angry (or whatever) and we were in hysterics.

Worse, I have one son, and I have been known to call him by my sister's name. Yeah, he loves that. LOL

I get frustrated with my FRIENDS who have all the names same letter.

One Friend has Harper, Henleigh, and Hudson. (Hudson I can remember, he's the only boy. But I always get Harper and Henleigh mixed up).

When I was younger I babysat for three girls - Shelby, Sydney, and Selena. Always stumbled over my tongue with them.

I only have one - name starts with a V. If/When #2 comes along I will likely NOT go with a V name. Just whatever name seems to sound right.

@OneNDone - I have called my son by my dog's name in the past too! Or called the dog the son's name. Or the husband the son's name - Mixing up all three guys, all who have completely different names.

My little boys' names are Jake and Zach and we call them the wrong name all the time. Everyone else does too, along with "Zake & Jack." I'm sure it's worse with the same letter, but know that even if they were different letters you'd probably mix them up anyway.

Even if their names started with a different letter... it would still happen.
I know, I do that.
In fact, I mistakenly call my Husband/daughter/son, by the wrong name too. Not just with my kids.
My Mom did that too, when I was a kid.
My Husband's Mom, still does that.

It happens, to all Moms, probably.

I have a boy and a girl whose names start with different letters, and I totally mix them up all the time. My son laughs at me now when I say, "Boy! Girl! Whoever you are!"

I notice I used to call my daughter my son's name when I was frustrated with her. I still call my son his father's name when I am frustrated with him. And yes, I've called both children the cats' names as well.

But this totally happens to everyone. I used to make fun of my mom, because she would always mix my sister and me up (our names also start with different letters). One time, she called me on the phone when I was in college (in the days before speed dial), and the first thing she said was, "Younger Daught - I mean Older Daughter!" I was like, "Mom, you went through the trouble of dialing my number to talk to me, and you couldn't even remember who you were calling!" Now I totally get it. :)

My kids don't even start with the same letter and I have 3 boys and 1 girl and a dog, and they are all interchangeable. My knee jerk name is usually "Alex'' because I'm yelling that all day with a very independent toddler underfoot. I usually go through 2-3 names, still not have the right one, and go with "hey you"

I do the same thing. I am also constantly mixing up a dear friends name with my oldest daughter.

When they laugh at me I just say "I can't help getting my two favorite women in the world mixed up!"

I have 3 daughters - none of their names are similar and I'm always calling them by the wrong names. Two of them are twins - 2.5 and one day one looked up at me and repeated 3 times... I'm Shea, I'm Shea, I'm Shea. Because apparently I had just called her the wrong name.

When my grandmother was alive she would call me by my either my cousin's name or my sister's name. My cousin and I both have names that start with J but my sister's name starts with a K. My mom sometimes calls me by my sister's name. I have called my husband by my son's name by mistake and all our first names start with J. I don't get frustrated. I just laugh it off.

If it makes you feel better, I do this with my daughter and our dog. When I was naming the dog, I didn't take into account how similar the name was to my daugther's nickname. I constantly refer to dog as my daughter's name, and my daughter with the dog's name. How awful is that?
