I am on the pill, progesterone only since I am nursing, and I am wondering if you are suppose to have a period while on them? My last period has been over a month ago, and that one was my first since having my daughter(7 months) and it started 2-3 days after I started the pill and I continued taking them. Just wondering if I can count on any predictability regarding periods. Thanks

Hi,

I did not have any periods while on the mini-pill. Finally went off of it after 6 months and got my first period within a week.

I nursed (no pill) and had no period for 11 months and then my cycles were 35 days. the second one I had no period 13 months and then my cycles were 35 days again. With this last I did not nurse (he died during birth) and I had a period at 6-8 weeks post partum and no period for over 50 days! Then I had a period and I'm waiting for my next, so I don't know how long I have to wait. And I'm not on the pill.

The point is, your hormones haven't leveled out yet and while nursing they probably won't. Pill or not, your period will be funny.

I started back on the mini pill at 6 wks postpartum and didn't get my first period until 11 mos later. After that, it was totally irregular - absolutely no predictability whatsoever, some months were 20 days, others were 65! Really hated that. :(

Mine was not predictable at ALL when I was nursing and on the POPs. It was a little worrisome at times, but I did not get pregnant.

I started having spotting after being on the pill when I wouldn't take it at the exact same time everyday. When I cut back to two nursings, I started to have heavier spotting and then eventually I had a period...I think. Now my daughter will be one next weekend and she is completely weaned. I think I had a period two weeks ago and now I am having more bleeding again... I was always like clock work before I got pregnant, so you are not alone in knowing about predictability.

For me, I never got my period while on that pill, which the doctor said I wouldn't. It was only until I switched back to a regular pill (after nursing) that i got my period. I think you are fine. You can double check with your do too.

I used the mini pill too and I didn't have a period for the whole first year of nursing. After I weaned at around 13 months I started to have regular monthly cycles. So since you are nursing, you may expect some irregularity until you completely wean. I have heard some women do have irregular cycles on the mini but I was like clockwork. Good luck:)

I was on the mini pill (Camilla) starting 8 weeks after my daughter was born (now 28 months). The first period I had was when she was 18 months old and for the next 6 months, until she stopped nursing, it was only every other month. My doctor said it was totally normal. Needless to say, I was sitll a little paranoid each month! :-)

The mini pill won't regulate your cycle, so you'll have a period whenever you're going to have a period, and since you're nursing, it is going to be an irregular one. With my first one, I had my first period when he was 4 months old, but would often skip a month or two for a long time after that. With my two girls, I didn't start having periods until they were almost 1 year, but my periods still didn't get regular until they were weaned. And if your baby goes through a spurt of nursing (my last one was 15 months old and had gotten sick so was nursing all day, or so it seemed!), that can suppress ovulation again and make you skip a cycle. So don't worry--irregularity is the norm when you're nursing!
