Hi, I saw my first bluebonnet of 2008 the other day and want to take my two girls to take pictures in a field of them. Does anyone know where a good field is? And it's no more than a half an hours drive from Cedar Park.

What can I do next?

hi M. - i live in cedar park too! Sahm to 6yr girl, 4yr boy, and 3 yr girl. Anyway, the best place we have found: go out 1431; go past I-35; maybe 1 mile or so is a field on the right side - it is right by some kind of office building. this is by far the best we have ever found. if you go on a weekend, be prepared to be patient to have a pristine pic as many people go there.

Hi M.
Give it a few weeks until they're fully in bloom. They're only just starting to come out now. April is a good month for the bluebonnets. Steiner Ranch has great banks of wildflowers and bluebonnets that people are always photographing their kids in. In fact in April they have a bluebonnet bash to invite people to look at the new homes and enjoy the bluebonnets! Ring the welcome center for details of when that is. There's usually lots of free food involved too!

I don't know if the bluebonnets are there yet this year, but we found a good one in Pflugerville last year. It is right around the corner from the HEB at 1825 & 685. If you are going through Pflugerville on 1825, you go straight at the light at 685 & it will be ahead on your left.

When the bluebonnets are in full bloom, the best thing to do is just drive towards Fredericksburg, Johnson City. They are just beautiful there!!

Last year there was a beautiful patch behind the Ikea on 35. I haven't been there this year...but hope it's there again!

i don't know where bluebonnet fields are, but if you find some, please be careful - rattlesnakes are known to rest in warm fields of bluebonnets. my dad and brothers - all hunters/outdoorsman, have come across several large rattlesnakes amid the flowers while out in the country.

I've seen people taking pictures of their kids right off of 1431 on the way to 35. I also saw a gorgeous field last year driving on Nameless Road (also off of 1431, right before Jonestown), but it was behind a fence so you might need permission.
