Terribly Stubborn Rash on My 1 Yr Old Son!

My son has had a bad rash on his chin and neck for a few months now, it showed up and hasn't gone away. I don't know what to do. I've tried everything, nystatin, lotrimin, desitin, aquaphor healing ointment. it has no effect on it what so ever. im desperate

What can I do next?

Sounds like eczema... I'd have him tested for allergies or try eliminating the usual culprits from his diet to see if it goes away.

Unless he's an infant, then it's from excessive drooling... nothing much you can do for THAT ;)

have you had the pedi check it out at this point? A rash longer than a week should always be checked out.

mouth and chin could be food allergy Or it might be drool from teething. see the dr.

change your detergent, bath soap, etc.

I would see your ped or a dermatologist. I had this rash on my leg for 4 weeks and thought it was poison ivy. It kept spreading so I finally made an appt with the derm and found out I had an infection on my leg. Just after 1 dose of the steroids my leg is looking so much better. Wish I hadn't waited so long, hehe.

Have you had it looked at? It's hard to know whether to use anti-fungals like Lotrimin when you don't know if it's fungal in nature. Same thing with using antibiotic creams or eczema type creams. If it's related to environment or foods, that's a different route. I agree that a rash for a few months needs to be reviewed. This problem is coming from inside at this point and no topical treatments are going to address the cause.

You might want to go to a naturopathic doctor or homeopathic doctor to find out what is causing the rash, not just what to put on it.

Ask for referrals as there are some weird ones out there.

After bathing with a mild soap, like Aveeno baby (works great on eczema), make sure that the area is dried very very well. My son had severe eczema as a toddler, he outgrew most of it. Once it is really dry (you can even use a blow dryer on a cool setting to make sure all the folds are dry.) Then put a lotion like Eucerin calming cream, or Aveeno baby lotion. You may want to take him to your pediatrician for a prescription, but even with a prescription you want to make sure it's extra dry, then moisturized. Over dry skin can make the rash worse, so moisturizing is important.
