Terrible Diaper Rash

My 10 month old daughter has never had diaper rash before and now that it has gotten hotter and very humid she has developed a terrible one. She has little sore looking things on her bottom and her private parts. Her private parts look like chapped lips and I have been using Johnson & Johnson diaper cream religiously. It doesnt seem to get any better no matter how much diaper cream I use. What do you think caused this sudden rash that she's never had before and how to I get rid of it?? When she is in the bath tub she wont stop scratching at it and I feel so bad for her because I cant get it to go away!! Can anyone help me??

What can I do next?

I would call the dr on Monday and see what they have to say about it. When my daughter was younger, she would get yeast infections and the dr suggested one of the yeast infection creams for her. What you are describing sounds like what she had, but I would talk to your doctor before trying anything, just to be sure it isn't something else.

Hi S.,

Make sure her diaper is being changed frequently. Sometimes diaper issues are due to infrequent changes. If she goes to daycare, try to remember the number of diapers you pack for her and how many she has left when you pick her up. She should be changed at least every 2 hours. Pampers is better than Huggies. My daughter's pediatrician suggested we switch to Pampers when she complained of her bottom hurting. Ever since then, no complaints. For some reason, Huggies has some kind of irritant in the diapers that bothers her. When you can, let your daughter have a little bit of time diaperless to help her condition heal faster. Let us know how it works out!

I hate to be the one to have to tell you and I can only tell you this from personal experience, but it isn't a diaper rash it is a form of a yeast infection and you need to take her to the doctors. When my oldest was a baby we thought he just had a serious diaper rash also but then little sores started to pop up and no matter what we used it seemed to get worst instead of better. At first the doctor treated it like a diaper rash also, so no matter what stay on them tell them you have tried everything you are to try for a diaper rash and that it is not working. A yeast infection can come on all of a sudden because of the heat and how baby's sweat in every little crease that they have. My son's was so bad that he started to peel in the diaper area. If your daughter goes to a daycare provider you need to make sure they are changing her diaper enough because this can also cause it. I found out the hard way... my doctor told me to leave enough diapers for a day and then count them when I got home.. he was right my babysitter only changed him twice a day and she had him anywhere between 9-10 hours day. Needless to say she was fired that day. Anyway I hope this helps. I'm a mom of three so if it has happened I've seen it...LOL

My 2 youngest kids got bad diaper rashes at that age when they started teething. I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste (found at Walgreens or other pharmacies) and corn starch baby powder(Gold Bond brand). I would also let them air out their bottoms between frequent diaper changes. The air helps to promote healing. It might not be a yeast infection so I'd get your doctor's advise. I also gave them a little bit of children's Motrin (ask your doctor how much) to reduce the inflammation. Don't worry, it will get better.
