Terrible Butt Rash!

My baby will be two in December. She's had a terrible butt rash for like 2 days, I've tried to be really punctual about changing her frequently and I've used the white butt rash cream and I've even put gobs of Vaseline on it, but everytime she has another big poop (or even pee) she just screams when I have to wipe her, I try to be gentle. Anyway, it looked better this afternoon but now I just changed another big poop and her poor bum is just so red and raw, what else can I do? I just put some more vaseline on it, I know that Vaseline works wonders. Any other suggestions? It doesn't seem to be going away. I try to notice right when she's poopy so she's not in a poopy diaper for too long, anyway...thanks!

What can I do next?

Budreau's Butt Paste...I swear by it. After only several applications, her rash is gone. Hope this helps.

I always used Gentle Natural Baby Eczema Cream. Worked like a charm, usually by the next change. Many moms on here like Aquaphor, but it always burned my kiddos. You can use the eczema cream in place of anything that calls for the Aquaphor. My kids didn't have big issues with rashes, but I know some kids can get infections from yeast, so vinegar washes or yogurt in place of rash cream might help, too. GL!

Rush really become a problem with baby girls, here is what we used to do to keep our girl's butt smooth....
1. change as quick as possible after pee or poop (which you are doing)
2. wipe it thoroughly (we always used warm wipes from wipe-warmer)
3. dry the butt completely (we used dryer on low setting)
{step 3 is most important, NEVER put cream on moist butt}
4. put rash cream (aveeno and bert bee's are my all time favorite)

Wishing your little one rash-free butts ;-)

I second the Boudreaux's butt paste. It's the best for diaper rash.

Stop the Vaseline!!!!!!!!! Okay, go to target and suck it up and pay $8-9 on Burt's Baby Bee's Diaper Cream. Consistently use that it should help. Also, when the babe is just wet, use a washcloth instead of a wipe (make sure you're wipes are alcohol free!) and let the bum air out as much as possible. It's always worked for me. Good luck!!!

Sounds like a fungal infection which is very common. Get some anti fungal foot cream from wallmart and put that on 2-3 times a day. Her bum also needs air so either let her run around naked a few times a day or use a hair dryer on low to her bottom a few times a day before you cream and diaper her. Should start seeing it clear up within a day!!

Good luck!

Sounds like a yeast infection to me. When my youngest was a baby and had a rash that had raw spots, the dr. told me to use Lotrimin AF (yes the one for athlete's foot). Cleared the rash up in a day.

Before you do anything, please call your pediatrician. There's no reason to expose your baby to an antifungal cream if it's a bacterial infection and vice versa.

Our kids have both had issues of horrible, bleeding diaper rashes because of pH levels in their poop. That's the easiest way to say it. Eat something wrong, it reacts with your body chemistry, changes the pH, and creates a world of mess.

We finally had to get a prescription product that locally is known as Riley Butt Cream for our largest children's hospital. It's mixed at the pharmacy and contains an antibacterial, antifungal, antihistamine and anti-inflammatory. It's amazing and lasts forever.

Good luck! Don't think you're being a bad mother - sometimes it only takes an instant for the poop to be on the skin for a reaction to occur.

The thing that worked best for us is something we like to call "Grandma's Lotion." Go to the store and get a container of Vitamin E cream (NOT lotion with vitamin E in it, but actual vitamin E cream), some pink baby lotion (Johnson's or another kind), and vaseline. Mix them all together, and slather it on. The vaseline does a great job of providing a barrier, but it doesn't allow the skin to get moisturized or heal. By mixing the other two lotions in with it, the diaper rash goes away very quickly. This from a momma with two sensitive-bottomed boys!

Try to let her air out without a diaper for as long as you can and absolutely do not wipe her with baby wipes which do alot of harm when their butts have rashes on them! Use warm wet paper towels instead (a soft brand like Viva) or a warm wet washcloth. Or if its easier just hose her down in teh shower instead of wiping at all. Desitin burns so definitely dont' use that. Triple paste works really well -- a little expensive so we use it only when our son's rash gets really bad. I also heard a milk bath soothes but haven't tried that yet...

Hi, I've been in your shoes many times. I used the Butt Paste with every diaper change, I loved the stuff. But when the rash was really bad I used the purple Desitin and A+D ointment, I alternated them. And let her air dry for a few minutes between changes. Also if this doesn't help within a couple of days take her to the Ped to check for a yeast infection. That was the case with my son one time and he needed a prescription cream (Nystatin), cleared up within 2 days. Tried vaseline once and it didn't help. Good luck and I hope your daughter is all better real soon. (I know, it really hurts seeing them so red and in pain.)

A great frind of mine suggested to use Crisco shortening on our child's rash. she swore by it and it worked for us. also there is a product called Criticaid that you can get at some pharmacies- it may be special order but you do not need a Rx for it. My cousin worked in a neonatal icu and that is what they use on the timy babies and several hospitals she has worked at. It keeps rash away. But instead of buying it, I make it according to her recipe. I mix equal parts vaseline to original desitin, then add baby corn starch to it to make it ALMOST gritty. It has been wonderful.

I know how you feel. My son gets real bad rashes to the point they blister his butt and when we'd change him he's fight and shale from pain. His Pediatrician told me no wipes, warm wet towel or any clothe, air dry and Boudreau's butt paste. Boudreau's butt paste is the only thing that help right away with relief and right away before it starts. And watch her diet. Not alot of acids, or sugar. Gatorade is what we'll give him to or water. No dairy. Works great. Good luck
