What is the difference between a temperpedic mattress and other memory foam mattresses? I have a expensive memory foam mattresses now that fits the beds that the head and feet raise and lower. I hate it, but use it because it was so expensive. Is temperpedic memory foam different from other memory foam, because if it isn't then I think I should try the sleep number. Years ago I had a water bed. It was like sleeping in a huge hot water bottle and I loved it and have not had a good nights sleep since I got rid of it. Thought this might help. I thank you. B.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well everyone was a help but I went to wikipedia to look up memory foam. I also looked at my mattresses, which were not cheap around $10,0000 for the two twin beds with mattresses. (I never sleep In the same bed with ANYONE) !! The mattress is made of Visco Elastic Memory Foam which according to wikipedia is what all memory foam is made of. The difference according to them is the density, in which Tempurpedic does make the highestest density, but all this accomplishes is a firmer mattress and one that wears out slower, and breathes less. I can tell I would not like this right off because I hate firm beds. I love soft mattresses. I am a firm believer that we have been lied to about firmer matresses are better for us. If you ever get the chance to go to a five star hotel like Atlantis Resort those beds are the best.My husband's boss ordered one for his whole family before we left. I thank everyone for their help but I think I won't be buying either mattress. I think I'm going to call my husbands boss and see what he bought but I bed they were at least $10,000

Hi, I have a Temperpedic and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Was that loud enough? Lol. I really do though, I have never slept this well since I also had my waterbed years ago. I do think the Temperpedic is much better than the knock offs. There is a reason that it is so expensive and the knock offs are so much cheaper. The quality of the foam they use makes all the difference in the world. I never thought a big hunk of foam would be this comfortable, but it really and truly is. And I think you can sleep on it for 30 days (or maybe it was 90, I can't remember) for free and send it back if you don't like it.

Good luck!

Well, I do not have a Sleep Number bed but we do have a Temperpedic. We both LOVE it!! The only down side is it gets hot at night. It basically traps all your body heat. So, we just keep it cooler in our bedroom and have a fan going (I have to sleep with a comforter at all times).

My husband did like the Sleep Number when he laid on it at the store, however I did not try it. Also, my sister and brother-in-law got a Temperpedic. They both really liked it but my brother-in-law could not stand the heat at night. They got a Sleep Number bed. He prefers it because of the heat issue. I do have to say that my sister is still complaining about it. She has the Temperpedic in their guest room and she says that she will go in there every now and again to lay on it.

Hope this helps!

I have a temperpedic & love it! We got a different brand of memory foam first & hated it. Quickly took it back & got what we wanted to begin with. It isn't for everyone though.

I LOVE my Tempurpedic!!! There is definitely a difference between the Tempurpedic and the knock-offs. A lot of it has to do with the amount of memory foam used. Even different levels of Tempurpedic have different amounts of memory foam and might be harder or softer.

We also just got a Tempurpedic bed frame that the head and foot raise and lower, so you might be able to use a Tempurpedic with your bed frame. Go to a mattress store and try out the different Tempurpedics to see if they feel different than the mattress you currently have. I slept on a sleep number bed for one summer and didn't like it at all.

Any two memory foam mattresses, tempurpedic or otherwise, can be somewhat different. They have different thicknesses of foam and slightly different recipes for the foam itself which will make it more or less dense. springy, etc.

Without more information about what you hate about it, it is hard to guess if these differences would likely be meaningful to you.

You can still buy waterbeds if that's what you really loved. Or you can try the sleep number beds. I had one for a long time and switched to a memory foam bed because my back was happier with it.

I can't help on the Temperpedic, but I can voice an opinion on the sleep number. We've had one for more than a year, and I hate it.
We both liked it for long enough to get past the return it if you don't like it period. I think it's a couple of months?

For quite a while, it helped my husband's back, but the trip to the chiropractor helped more.

My side never stays adjusted, it seems to either inflate or deflate depending on the temp of the room, the time of day, and the button ghosts I swear we have. It got worse when we moved the bed to a different part of the bedroom. My side is now right over a vent and I have to adjust it almost every night.

Neither of us are happy with it now, even my husband says he can no longer find a comfortable adjustment.
Maybe because I'm over weight, but my back kills me every morning I sleep longer than 5 hours no matter what number I've adjusted it to.

We also purchased a memory foam pillow from the same manufacturer at the time we bought the bed. After about 6 months of struggling, I finally gave that $120 pillow to my oldest daughter.

I believe all the sizes have a thick foam ring around the outside of the air mattress, or both mattresses depending on the bed size, and I don't know about the queen, but we have a king, and there's also a thick foam piece that goes from head to foot right down the middle.
Not to give "too much information", but between the "barrier" down the middle and the different adjustments on either side, sex can be rather, well, athletic. LOL I'm tempted to use the floor sometimes. And cuddling? Unless both sides are very close in adjustment, or someone doesn't mind sleeping on the foam barrier, forget it.
Not worth the money if you ask me, all in all.

I do have a good expensive memory foam pillow, not the same one I talked about earlier, and I really like it. I make sure to flip it or turn it every night so I don't wear down one side more than another and it's really holding up well.
I don't know that you could or would have to flip a Temperpedic mattress though! Ha, that'd be a pain.

Read all the reviews you can find, and good luck.

I believe the temperpedic bed and the memory foam are a little different. I think the quality of the temperpedic foam is a better quality than the memory foam mattress. They are expensive but are supposed to last for a long time. If you do not like the mattress then get a new one and do not drive yourself crazy. Try the sleep number bed. I have a friend who has one and she really likes it. See if you can sell the mattress, may be get some money back on it. good luck

Somewhat related answer... we have a sleep number bed, and I LOVE it. It doesn't "dent" like foam mattresses. We got it between my first and second child, and the sleeping during the second pregnancy was so much better - no pins and needles or pain. We got it for my husband's back - and I am so happy we did. Would by another!

Hi B.,
I have purchased two very expensive mattresses and had major back
problems after a couple of years. Long story short, I now have an
Aerobed bed that can be inflated/deflated with the press of a button.
The Aerobed is a full size bed. I got my bed from Overstock.com/
Smart Bargains.com. I got free shipping and the total was around $103.
I looked at them in Bed Bath & Beyond & the price was $199. plus. I love
the mattress and it has really helped my back. Good luck in your search.

If you loved the waterbed you may like the sleep number bed. I felt like it was a huge air mattress and hated it. Plus since we have a king there would have been this barrier in the middle.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our Temperpedic though!

There is a difference. Do you have a brookstone store or a bedding store where you can try out the tempurpedic? Their website explains the differences in their beds from cheaper versions of memory foam. It's like any other "knockoff" product, there's a reason people try to copy them!
