Temperature - Richmond Hill,NY

I took my daughter's temperature under her arm (she is 19 days old) and it was 97.3, should I be concerned?

What can I do next?

No because 98.6 is normal, and as a general rule you add one degree to the temp reading when its taken under the arm. So in your situation, her temp read 97.3, but her temp REALLY is 98.3. No problems there!

I think a rectal temperature is the most accurate. I have always added a degree when under the arm temp is taken. Babies can run lower then adult temperatures and higher then adult temps. If rectally it is still that low then just give the doctor a call. My nephew ran a low temp and the doctor just had my sister in law keep a hat and socks on his feet to hold his body heat in and that helped. I am sure she is fine. Good luck on your baby girl!!!

Your best bet to take your baby's temperature at that age, you should take it in the booty. It's accurate and its to the point. Anything over 99.0 is too high in the booty. Under the arm at 97.3, there is no concern.

I would be..I would just call the pediatrician..
I would always take it rectally to be sure of what the exact temp is.. that is what your pediatrician will ask you to do also.. especially that young.. CALL pediatrician..
Anytime you have some gut strange feeling.. Listen to it..
I always call my pediatrician.. I leave a message. He calls me back.. If he doesn't get right back to me.. I call again. until he does.. He does. He is an awesome doctor. Dr. Martocci in Garden City, NY.
