My son has been drooling excessively since he was three months and off and on since then he has shown favortism to the left side of his bottom gums (in the front left side). We have also noticed tenderness a time or two, but so far no teeth have come through. Is it normal for this to occur?

What can I do next?

It is completely normal and they will all of a sudden pop thru. The next ones might just come thru right away, its hard to tell.

Hello

Yes This is normal.. I remeber my daughter started drolling around when she was 4 or 5 months I would have to carry around 10-15 bibs a day because it was so much. She didn't get her first teeth until she was almost 9-10 months and the drooling just stopped out of nowhere.

babies start teething sometimes a few months before any teeth come in cause it can take a while for the tooth to reach the surface and break through the gum. my daughter is three and a half months old and she's showing those same signs you talked about. it's totally normal.

Yes It is completely normal. It just takes time for the teeth to pop through. (The first ones take the longest and hurt the worst!)Also babies tend to get the bottom teeth first.

I just wanted to suggest Hyland Teething Tablets..when your baby gets cranky from teething these things are the greatest. They are a true godsent..you can get them at most grocery stores or health food stores.

My son went through the same thing for months and it drove me nuts.I think i was more uncomfortable than he was though.Eventually he became more irritated by pain and the tooth finally came through.Give it some time and when it finally comes through you'll both feel better. Also keep teethers in the freezer that was one thing that Joseph found comforting to chew on. My son drooled alot starting at about that age. He didn't get his first tooth until 9 mos old. It just feels good on their gums. And have you ever tried putting something in your mouth and not drooling. Can't do it, don't even try. Babies explore their world by putting things in their mouths. That's just what they do. So he's going to drool alot. Just get use to it. You will know when he's gonna "pop" a tooth. You will see it under the gum line before it breaks through.

Three months is about the age that my son began the heavy drooling as well. I asked his doctor about it and it turns out that it isn't actually a sign of teething. A baby's body starts producing more enzymes around that time because they are beginning to get ready to eat solid foods! My son's first tooth came in when he was 5 months and five more teeth have followed in the two months since then. Although, I worked in a daycare one summer and I had babys who got there teeth at all different times. The latest I saw was a boy who didn't get his first tooth in until he was 10 or 11 months. They'll come in eventually.

Hi A.,

My daughter, now 5 months old started excessively drooling at around 3 months, and then one day (when she 4 months old) 2 bottom teeth poked through. She didn't even fuss...but I gotta tell ya, the drooling before that was sooo much that I had actually gotten concerned...(first time mom, can you tell?) Anyways, the drooling has since started again about 2 weks ago and we can see her top teeth just under the gum line...and this time she is fussing big time! She even got a fever beacuase of it, on Christmas of all days! And she also has a nasty cold....So my poor little girl has a cold, and it teething...alot for a little one to handle. I'm sure your son's teeth, or tooth will pop through any day now! Don't forget to write it in his baby book!!
