Teething Help! - Streamwood,IL
My 6 month old just cut his bottom tooth and looks like he is about to cut another one soon. I have tried everything Tylenol, ibuprofen, orajel, teething rings, wet washcloth and nothing really seems to work more then a couple hours. Poor guy is screaming in pain. Anyone have any other suggestions? Not sure if maybe it's something else. He just has a low grade temp and all the signs of teething, but I just feel horrible that I can't make him more comfortable.

Did you try freezing his teething ring or if he uses a pacifier freeze that? Or you can put and ice cube in a wash rag and place it on the the tooth. It pops work nice too. try freezing a mini bagel and have him chew on that. I know this sounds strange but try rubbing a little vanilla extract on the area where the tooth is coming in. It gives a warm and numbing feeling. You can also try clove oil for the same effect. When giving Tylenol rub the liquid directly on the sore area.
Good Luck

What helped my little guy a ton was homeopathic drops Camilia by Boiron. You can buy it at Vitamin Shop. It comes in individual little tubes and its just like water, so you squirt it in their mouth and it relaxes them right away ;-) For us it worked better then Hylands tablets. I got all of my friends using it as well for their teething ones and they all swear by it!

Hylands teething tablets! They dissolve in his mouth. Totally natural and worked great. My ped recommended them and we are so glad she did. I bought them at Whole foods, but you can get them at walgreens, cvs, etc. Good luck!

Low grade temp & screaming in pain? Are you sure it's teething? I would call his ped...could also be an ear infection. Hope he feels better soon.

hylands teething tablets ( or BOIRONS Chammomilia)! Make sure nothing but water is given 15 minutes prior to and after giving them. You cant use tylenol for months! ( mY daughter was teething for MONTHS!) also increased tylenol use is associated with asthma. My friend was told by her doc oragel can cause heart problems in a small amount of babies so he recommends you dont use it. My daughter would also have a fever with each tooth, but it would also get high so dont be alarmed! Fevers are not a reason to pump your kid full of Tylenol

Two things that helped my kids: vibrating teether (not sure if they still make that - it vibrates when they bite down) and frozen washcloth. Wet a washcloth, wring it out. Fold and twist longwise or in a ring, freeze. You will need to keep 2 or 3 in the freezer and keep alternating.

The one thing that worked wonders for me was this teething mesh thing that I got at Target (I can't remember the name of it). It's got a ring holder on one end and a little mesh type bag on the other that I would fill with frozen mango. My daughter would bite on the frozen fruit and she would instantly stop fussing. Yes, it's messy, but it helped tremendously - and tasted good too. :-)
