Teething Baby

My baby boy just turned 3 months old. He has been acting very restless while sleeping the last couple of nights and also while awake. He started chewing and sucking on his hand alot lately and has been drewling like crazy. Also for the last couple of nights while sleeping he has been doing alot of coughing. My mother keeps him while I am at work and she said that he got a hold of her thumb this morning and is chewing on it. Does it sound like he is teething already?

What can I do next?

Yes, hun. Both of my children (which are 7 and 5 now) started teething at 3 months so this is normal. Teething rings, oragel, and Motrin always did the trick for them.

my daughter is 4 months old, and she started doimg the same about a month ago. when i asked my pediatrician about it, she said that her teeth are forming and that she might cut her first tooth as early as 6 months.

Hi J.,

When my daughter was that age we got a little finger toothbrush. It was just this little thing that went on your finger with a little bit of texture on it. That seemed to really help. We would use it at bath time and it seemed to help soothe her gums. It was also really great to get us all in the habit of brushing, right from the start.

Have a great one!

J.,

My son went throught the same thing, but starting at 2 1/2 months. He didn't cut his teeth until he was 5 months old. It goes in spurts, he was cranky and chewed everything, then he was just slobbery. Try rubbing a small amout of infant tylenol on his gums before bed. Thats what we are doing with our son now and it seems the help him sleep better.

P.S. We are working on 4 teeth at the same time, it just never stops.

yes that sounds exactly like teething to me.

Yeah, it does, dont worry it sounds like hes handeling it like a pro, i would just have some cold/cool washcloths ready for him to chew/suck on. Are his gums a little swollen or extra red at all that's an even bigger sign ... your pedi will confirm it at your 4 mo check up. Mine started around then but nothing has ruptured yet and he said dont be suprised if I dont see anyhing for a few months. My son doesnt seem bothered by it but he does do the cutest thing. He puts his knuckle in his mouth on his gums and shakes his head b/c he can shake his head faster that he can move his hand to rub his gums.

Yes, you son is teething. I know this becasue my son is the same age and I am having the same problems. I find out that my son was started teething when one night he had a fever. I asked my grandmother who is a nurse and infomed me that my son was teething. Thanks for posting the question. I feel better knowing that my baby is normal, or at least I not the only one dealing with a teething 3 month old.

My four month old son started doing the same thing about a month and a half ago. I posted the same question and was told by many other moms that this is totally normal. Also, at his visit last week the doctor said that yes, his teeth are forming and causing his gums to tingle. She said to expect teeth soon. So, yes, it is porbably teething or at least the beginning of the process!!
