Hi, I'm not sure if this has been asked before but I used to use PlusWhite toothpaste enhancer, just add to your toothpaste, but apparantly, it's no longer available. I've tried Arm & Hammer brand of the toothpaste enhancer but just doesn't seem to work well & used to use the Arm & Hammer Peroxide Whitening toothpaste but it made my gums bleed & my dentist told me to quit using it but it worked well other than that but I just wondered if anyone has had any luck w/the whitening strips...what the opinions were on them & the pros & cons? Or perhaps is it really better to goto a dentist & spend the money since the strips costs so much? How often do you use the strips if they're recommended? Thanks!

So What Happened?

I forgot to ask about the new 'whitening lights' they have now where you put the gel on your teeth & there's a light you put on your teeth for so many minutes, has anyone used that?? Thanks for all the answers so far! I appreciate it!

The trays and the bleach from the dentist is the only thing that worked on me. (I had grey stains on some teeth from antibiotics I got as a baby when I was very ill.)
I paid $125 for the trays to be made and 6 tubes of the gel. Sounds like a lot until I total up all the Over the Counter things I tried that didn't work and realize I probably paid more for all the other stuff.....

i dont think the strips cost too much compaired to the dentist. but its best to get them professionaly cleaned first. you can also rinse with hydrogen peroxide to help keep them white (read the label) i did not like the strips (crest) as i could never remember to do them and they some what hurt one of my teeth (not sure if it was a reaction the the metal filling or not) but they did seem to work when i could remember them. my bro used them right in a row...ex: top and bottom strips are for thirty mins then rinsed mouth and used another set of top and bottom strips for an additonal thirty mins. i would be careful especially if your teeth are sensitive to tooth paste.

I had my teeth professionally whitened in 2002 by my dentist.

Since then, I had not really kept up with it. I spoke to my dentist about what I could do instead of buying the $75 whitening tube from her. I had tried the Crest strips and thought they were gross. They were very slimey.

She suggested Listerine Whitening Rinse. You do it for a minute before you brush twice a day. I have been doing this for about 3 months and have noticed a difference.

All the chemical whitenings can damage the enamel. Dr. Oz had a device on his show that is supposed to work very well. You can probably find it somewhere on his website.

My dentist is a good friend of mine, and she recommends Crest Whitestrips. My older daughter used them after braces and her teeth are beautifully white! They do work. My dentist would agree with yours... stop using the whitening toothpaste. It does irritate your gums and doesn't whiten.
