Has anyone tried out the ZOOM teeth whitening procedure or the whitening trays that you can get from your dentist? What was your experience? Would you recommend it? Is it worth the $$? Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the feedback. I am not doing ZOOM if it hurts so bad.

Hi D!

Oh my gosh the ZOOM hurts like heck!! I am like Renee, my teeth aren't overly sensitive, but they started getting jolts of pain through the procedure and I literally thought I was going to pass out from it. They continued for a few hours afterwards too. I would NEVER do this again! I paid about $600 for mine and my teeth look great now but not worth that pain. Not at all!! They give you trays and a supply of whitening stuff to use over time afterwards, but even those hurt me now too. They tell you to leave them in for an hour but I can only do 30 minutes. And I'm scared to do the day and night together in the same day. If I do, it's several days or even weeks before I can use them again. I've never been this sensitive to anything.

My husband just got the trays after his cleaning and they made a big difference on him too. That's what I'd stick with if I were you!!

Plus, when I had mine done we didn't realize quite yet that the inside of my mouth is most likely allergic to latex. Each time I go for a cleaning or anything, ulcers pop up in my mouth. Anyway, when you do ZOOM, they put an ointment on your lips and cover them with foil. Mine weren't covered well enough and they burned during the treatment. My lips were so blistered for nearly two weeks, plus the ulcers and the jolting pains through my teeth. I was so pissed that I couldn't even enjoy my new white teeth for 2 weeks, I couldn't even smile because it was so painful.

Bottom line - save your money and just go with the trays!

I had the ZOOM treatment 3 yrs ago and it was so painful! I have sensitive teeth but nothing crazy....I can drink cold liquids and eat ice with no problem. But half way through the treatment my bottom teeth started to get this terrible sensation (felt like someone was holding a cold object on my teeth that got more and more intense, then it would stop for several minutes and return) This happened for about 24 hrs after the treatment and needless to say I was terrified it would never stop!

My teeth were really white and the color lasted about 9-10 mths. I do know some people who have not felt any of the pain and nerve sensations that I experienced. My dentist said that people who have had braces and a lot of work done to their teeth in the past could possibly have more sensitivity.

I would stick to the store products!

Coincidentally, I just got home from having the Zoom Advanced done at my dentist's office. In all honestly, it takes about 2 hours, my teeth are incredibly sensitive right now, which I have been assured is very normal, and it doesn't feel great, but my teeth look amazing. Apparently they will only get whiter over the next three days, so we'll see. Right now they really hurt, though.

I had zoom a few years ago and my nerves were extremely sensitive for about three days! Yes, they were very white, but I decided that I could not go through it again and rely solely on my whitening trays. Good Luck!
