Teeth - Galena Park,TX
My four year old has a tooth growing behind her baby teeth but her tooth looks like its growing sideways we have notice that her baby tooth is loosening up. Once her baby tooth falls will that perm tooth straighten out?

When my 2nd son's permanent front teeth were coming in I thought I had never seen more crooked (I mean they were diagonal in different directions! ) teeth. I couldn't believe it after perfectly straight baby teeth! They seem to be not quite as severe lately and though I think he'll probably still need braces, it may not be as bad as it seems. A lot of times they monitor young children, but wait until the back molars come in before doing anything. Time can only tell.

i think your suppose to have that one pulled so it wont grow crooked. call the dentist and ask them. but if its growing in crooked i bet it will remain crooked...like a tree that grows crooked or twisted it will remain that way.

My son's dentist was able to tell from his x-rays a few years ago that he was likely going to need braces. But, one thing to remember is that perm teeth come in when they are ready; the root of the baby tooth is usually dissolved by the contact with the perm tooth, but sometimes it comes out before the perm tooth is ready.
At the same time, the jaw continues to grow to hopefully be large enough to accommodate the full amount of permanent teeth. So many "moving parts" going on, and there are bound to be some times when things do look quite "right". My understanding is that as long as a child's bite and ability to chew food isn't affected by the way a tooth is positioned, then the dentists wait to see how things will shift.
Just check with your child's dentist to make sure that everything under the gums is ok. Don't worry, it will be ok.

This is only the beginning of the crazy teeth for your child. As they move around preparing for and allowing the new (larger) permanent teeth to come in, her mouth will look crazy. I was concerned about it with my now 7 year old, who was 5 1/2 before he lost his first tooth. But, the dentist assured me that as his mouth grew his teeth would straighten out. We have taken pictures and laughed at his crazy mouth the past 2 years.

It did for our son. He had the same thing going on.

It might, depending on the space and the other teeth around it. It's worth asking her dentist about at her next checkup. Good luck!

Not a panic. Ask at her next check-up. That happened to my niece also. Teeth very, very rarely grow crooked once they have broken the surface; they usually straighten out.
My niece had a double row of teeth for a few years. The baby tooth in front and the perm. tooth behind. They waited until she was about 8 or 9 to have the baby tooth removed...they gave it a few years to loosen on it's own and it didn't.
Always be wary of orthodontists, oral surgeons who want to pull teeth early!!! We learned the hard way with our oldest son. Get second opinions. Don't let someone rush you into a surgery date. We didn't do that and wished we would have.
