I would suggest laser tag. There is Q-Zar Laser Tag in Toledo that even offers a package deal for birthday parties.
If he doesn't like that idea, how about tickets to a car show or a drag racing event?

What about having a pizza party and showing some movies with cars in them? Not terribly original, but pretty much every teenager loves pizza, popcorn, and movies, and kids are always looking for an excuse for a party. The laser tag and paintball ideas, and going to a car show are good ideas, too, but it depends on what is going on in your town at that time and what his friends are into, also. Ask him if he has any ideas, too. Good luck.

B.,
I don't know if you have it in your town, but in Columbus they have a place called called Speed, I think, where you drive cars around an indoor race track. That might be pricey, though. And of course, Castles and Coasters. But there's also the new Wii game system. It's totally different from Nintendo and Xbox systems. No game controller. You hold a remote and and make the real life motions to do whatever it is in the game, boxing, Mario, bowling, etc. There's a big variety of games and they probably have car racing. It's very family friendly. Paint ball is always popular, too! Boys are tough to buy for, too. Seems like everything they want is expensive. You can't just get them a little purse or funky jewelry like you can for teenage girls. Good luck!

Honestly, he probably won't want a party at all. At least, most 16 year boys I know don't. I would check with him first, as some others have suggested. It might be best to give him some cash and let him spend time with his friends. I hope he has fun no matter what you guys decide! :)

at 16 the last thing he probably wants around is his mother (sorry) but its true, ask him what he wants to do, if he says nothing, give hime $ and let him go out with his friends because that is probably what he wants to do anyway. 16 and birthday "parties" don't really mix anymore. you can always take him out to dinner but please just leave him be with his friends.

Well my kid btother just turned 16 this year and we all went glow bowling. it was one of those stupid fun kinda things. a bunch of kids from his class showed up and others just happened to be there and the kids got to bowl for free and my mom bought pizza there for everyone, no gifts no cake no cheesy decorations just a night out for the kdis doing what they probally would have been doing anyways. another idea is i'm not sure where you live but what about camping, a bunch of teenagers around a campfire messing around till all hours and some good old family bonding while your at it. just some thoughts hope he enjoys the big day regardless.

You could always check around to see if there is a car show the same date as his bday, and take him and a couple of his friends to see it? Or if you know of anyone that has old car you could invite them and all of their "cruise in" buddies to have a Cruise in at your house to set the theme for his party. Good luck! Carshownews.com - there is a show in columbus on July 12-14.

sweet 16...thats a big one!!:D I would first ask him what he'd like or want to do. Go off of his ideas. This is a "steping stone" teens life. Now hes got 18, 21, and 40 left for the big ones..lol. If hes into cars maybe a racetrack with the go carts, or cederpoint!!( i still luv it) There resorts like hocking hills- places like that. U can hike, fish, swim, local places u can go. Paintball fields would be fun at that age. They get all the proper gear and saftely lessons to before starting. Its gotta be something special for a importain birthday and something that his friends wont pick on him for. I remember my mother still wanted us to wear the pointed b day hats and stayed home for it.....i was crushed. So really get on line to find the closest places to go and talk to him about what he'd like. Hope it turn out well. A big cookout at the home (even if ur going somewhere later) would be great so all family can still be a part of it. Post how it turns out so the other mothers and get ideas. 16 is a hard stage..lol=}
takecare
