M.S. asks from Plano, TX

My daughter just turned 13 and has decided she would like to try modeling. She is very photogenic but has never done anything like this. Any suggestions on a fun, safe, inexpensive place to start? I don't really want to spend a bunch of money up front on this since it's probably just a phase. But I would like for her to have the experience.

First of all you should spend NO money with the exception of a couple of head and body shots of her.

I grew up modeling and continue to do so occasionally. My 14 yr old has also modeled.

A couple of good local agencies are Kim Dawson and Campbell. You just send the pic to them and they call you if interested. Sometimes there are open calls...go to them and see how it goes.

Be ready to comfort her in disappointment. My daughter's best friend is signed with Kim Dawson and right now because of braces, she is knocked out of everything. It is probably the best right now, however, because she was missing school to do Guess ads and the school district gave her parents a hard time due to being out of school. The most time my daughter missed school was a week in CA modeling.

It is not as fun as it is cracked up to be. As long as you know it is WORK and have a good attitude, you will be fine.

Do not spend a dime. Go to kim dawson. Really, they can tell from a polaroid. If anyone asks for money, it's a scam.

Yes...send in your snapshots and also:
Go to the top salons in Dallas and let them know you are willing to model for hairshows, photoshoots, classes whatever. You wont get paid but This is a great way to get some free pictures and experience.

You need to send snapshots in to The Campbell Agency and Kim Dawson studios and Clutts, Ivett Stone. Follow the directions on their website for submitting. DO NOT SPEND MONEY!!! There should generally not be any fees for them to sign your child. You do not need head shots in advance. Any one who asks for head shots in advance is not good. Once you are signed THEN you get some pictures. At that point there might be a fee to be in the headbook or posted on the website, but you do not HAVE to do that part. You can be represented without being in the book. Be very careful. Lots of people talk a good game but will not get jobs or just take your money. Do lots of internet homework.
