Tea Party Ideas

I wanted to know if anyone has had a tea party for their daughters and if so could you give me some ideas. My daughter is 6 yrs. old and has been telling me that she wants to have a tea party for the longest time, so I agreed and we are having it this coming weekend. There's only going to be about 6 girls total. So we have a tea set that they would use, but any creative ideas to make this fun for them would be helpful.

What can I do next?

I love tea parties! And you don't have to drink tea, you could put what ever they like in the teapot and thats fun, make some cupcakes, maybe let the girls help in frosting them with different toppings, I had a party last night and I cut white bread with a heart cookie cutter and made egg salad sprinkled with a little paprika on top so cute! You need little finger foods. At six, it would be fun to do make-up or nails, if you know any Mary Kay consultants it would be fun to do that (and they come for free) or maybe a craft like painting sun catchers. Then have a girlie movie, "Anne of Green Gables" is such a cute girl movie! Use lots of pink, maybe some dress-up clothes, some feather boas.
My little girls are 2 and 9mon,can't wait to have tea parties! Well we do some now but, my son when he was 2/3 we would have tea parties I got just a plan white tea set and we would have milk and cookies in his room and I would read him a story.(hes 8now and doesn't want to talk about now)
have fun!!

We just had one with our play group. It was adorable.

We had sandwiches (pb&j cause who doesn't love that)cut into heart shapes, scones, colorful melon ball skewers, and STAR FRUIT at the top. They loved it. Fancy table clothes and real flowers. (Each girl got to take one home with them.)

We used apple juice instead of tea, because few children like real tea.

Everyone got all dressed up, and the girls loaded on hats and jewelry. They didn't require any other entertainment. It lasted for about 2-3 hours with no other entertainment.

My daughter's Brownie troop wanted to have a tea party last year. I dragged out all my dress up clothes. I used real china cups and each of them got to take their cup home.

Crustless sandwiches were a big hit. I also made scones with jam and lemon curd.

It was a big hit. They ate everything on the table and stuck their pinkie fingers up while they sipped.

Have fun!

I gave my step-daughter a tea party when she turned 9. I found this awesome book, "Let's Have a Tea Party" by Emilie Barnes. This book has all the ideas you need for a complete tea party. We did "Little Women" as our theme. The girls watched the movie, dressed up, and had a wonderful tea luncheon. It turned out great. I even found big, floppy hats that we decorated with flowers and ribbons. All of the girls left with the hats, as well as, tea cups. Best wishes!

When my daughter turned 6, she had a tea party for her birthday. We had the girls all dress in their prettiest dresses. At that party, there was a friend who would do their hair and add a small tiara and another to do make-up for those who wanted it. We had a teapot pinata, "loot" bags filled with fancy schmancy goodies (ie. gloves, shiny jewels, bubble necklaces). There were small cakes and pastries (I think we went a little English High-Tea).

Good luck!

My daughter is almost four and we went to a tea party for her friends birthday a couple of weeks ago. Each girl got a little plastic container with her name on it and then they each got to pick a nail polish, a lipstick, an eye shadow, blush, and a fancy hair clip. Then they played dress up. All of the make up was for little girls and did not make much of a mess. Then each girl got to put her make up in the plastic container and take it home and that was there party favor. Then the girls had tea, and then lunch. The mom made pigs in a blanket and little sandwiches. Then they had dance time where the girls got to dance around. And then they had a pinata shaped like a purse. The birthday cake was all pink. My daughter had a great time.

I did this for my daughter 15 years ago. We used the silver tea set, china, etc. The girls came in their fanciest dresses with some of M.'s jewelry too. I had made tiny sandwiches using cookie cutters. The cake was one of those that has a doll in the top and the cake looks like her skirt (I had one at my own 6 year old tea party). The best part was her 2 older brothers and a friend who was a boy--they dressed in suits and were the waiters for these little girls. Ah, precious memories now that they are all adults!

Whne I was about 6 I went to one of the funnest parties of my childhood - it was a Teddy Bear Tea Party.

We all got to bring our favorite TeddyBear, and our teddies helped and accompanied us as we did everything.
1st we made 'teddy bear' cookies (I belive it was a gingerbread cookie cutter and my friends mom rolled out some regular sugar cookie dough that had cocoa in it).
While those were baking we decorated aprons for ourselves, and hats for ourteddy bears.
While those dried we played party games and sang songs.
Then we sat down for the actual "tea" with our teddybear cookies, tiny sandwhiches, tiny cakes, and teas. (she had hot cocoa as well) We all had long gloves and hats :)
The we got to dress up in our aprons, dress our teddybears in their decorated to match hats, and went home with the cookie recipie.

Cookies/other sweets

Are you having it outside or inside?
You can get a mini-golf set to play after or croquet.
You can buy for the girls those little lacy umbrellas as a goody gift.
Serving trays.
A movie or show.

Does that help?

You can get stuff and let the girls make hats like the ladies used to wear in olden days. My sister did this at a party she went to when she was a Senior in high school. The girls had the greatest time!

I have never had a tea-party for children before but I have seen a book that showed tea cups & saucers. Cupcakes were made either in a paper cup and then added to the cup and decorated with pastel color icing and sugar sprinkles. It was a very cute idea.

Hi R.,

I had a tea party for my daughter's 7th birthday back in Dec. We had a blast. We invited 8 girls. I bought the little foam tiaras and craft accessories for each girl to decorate however she wanted. That was a very inexpensive and fun activity for the girls. After they finished we made sure each one took a picture wearing her very own creation. Also, if the girls are going to have cookies with their tea, you can let each one personalize their own sugar cookie.

Hope this helps!

My daughter had a tea party for her 5th bday. Here are a few things we did:

-I bought each girl a plain straw hat and we decorated them with silk flowers, beads, feather boas, etc. at the party. Then took their pictures with the bday girl (sent them with the thank you notes)

-On the invitation we told the girls to wear their favorite dress--

-I had the dining room table set with place settings for each girl, fresh flowers, candles, etc.. I wanted them to feel "grown-up" and special.

-We served fresh fruit, veggies, pizza and small crackers/cookies. I had my nephew be the waiter and he walked around with the trays of food and served each girl. I cut the pizza into small squares to make it look more "elegant".

-for a party favor, I sent each girl home with a pink rose tied with a tulle bow, along with their hat.

Pick a theme- we've done a dolly tea, a bear tea, a Christmas tea, Vday tea, princess tea.... We had metalic and feather crowns from the Dollar Tree for the Princess tea.

My girls can't eat gluten, but those Little Debbie cakes are adorable. You can even use icing to add little decorations on them. As others have said, crustless sandwiches are a must!

S., mom to 4 girls and due with our first boy any day!

The whole party was 2 different shades of pink. Pink table cloth with different shade pink napkins and plates, and different colored pink balloons. I loved tea parties when I was little.. My Mom let me have a couple of them.. I remembered them and now have them for my granddaughter.
I got to dress up in Mom's clothes. I think the skirt circled around me a couple of times! I got to wear my Grannies shoes. My sister fixed my hair up into some kinda 'special' pony-tail with a scarf. I had lipstick and rouge, probably way too much of both of them. LOL I invited all the girls on my street, about 8 of them. We had tea and sandwiches with the crust cut off and cake for dessert.
For my granddaughters party, it was basically the same.. She went thru my closet, picked out her outfit.. I added a feather boa for her shawl. She wore a string of 'pearls' and earrings. High heels and a hat that been passed down from my gramma.
I usually serve sandwiches.. I use wheat bread on the bottom and white on the top. I cut the crusts off and cut them corner to corner, so I get 4 triangles.. I flip over two pieces so they alternate the wheat and white bread. They are all happy with PB &J, so it makes it really simple. I put out sugar cubes for the tea,, some of the girls had never seen sugar cubes before. I use big paper doilies under their plates. I found some clear plates at the dollar store and put a fortune under each plate.. When they finished their meal, they could read their magic fortune right thru the plate. Please take pictures. I take a couple of group shots and an individual one of each little girl. I print them and send them each home with a memento of the day.
Hope this is what you were looking for.

Wow does this bring back memories. I had a tea party when I turned 6. We dressed up in like last years easter dresses, had some white lace gloves, and the plastic heals. I got all dressed up upstairs and went to take a step down and slipped causing me to tumble down the stairs. My mom heard me and ran fast to the top of the stairs and I remember my exact words: "That was fun, can I do that again!?!". But anyways my mom and one of her friends waited on us and we had one of those bells you ding for service. She made crustless sandwiches, veggies and fruit, and I can't remember what else. Then they had gotten a bunch of mary kay samples and put on a lil makeup. We did cake and presents and that was it. It was probably my most memorable birthday. Just had to add that I got my first water baby (you know the big ones that i dont think you can buy anymore) that birthday and I had her for a very long time until my younger sister bit her fingers off..lol. I cant wait to have a daughter one day to give her that memorable birthday too!

Dear R.,
I responded to a Princess party in this way. Perhaps you could adjust it to include tiny finger(cucumber, cream cheese) sandwiches, mini muffins, tiny cheese and crackers or mini cookies since tea parties feature mini foods, not meals. Include paying a sincere compliment to each guest, introducing each guest to others and thanking them for their joining in pleasant company.
Of course every princess has been enrolled in finishing school so they know all about manners and walking nicely keeping a crown on their head, and carrying a cup of tea without spilling.
First, start the game for the duration of the party with the announcement that each time a guest says Please or Thank You, they get a little bracelet--those little neon rubber things--cheapo.
Secondly, Princesses in training should be able to walk across the ballroom or lawn (15 feet) without spilling their tea-use gingerale, or something clear,(no stains) but Certainly not water--too common) which is filled to the brim of their plastic tea cup. They will be on tippy toes (as per high heels) of course. You may politely drink what is left.
Thirdly,
Princesses should come quickly when their Queen Mum calls them (same 15ft) without losing the tiara on their head.
Of course princess in training need lots of reminding to use manners to make sure they receive all the bracelets at every opportunity.
If a participant should (Heaven forbid) bump into another,or spill their drink on someone, if she says "uh,oh, whoa"--1 bracelet. "I'm sorry" gets 2 bracelets, and of course, "excuse me" earns 3 bracelets.
Should a grande faux pas occur, the princess who says,
"my bad" shall forfeit all bracelets. ;)
AND in the event that she immediately corrects herself and says "I'm sorry" or such, her bracelets are immediately restored to her lovely arm.
The pleasure is all mine, C. ;)
ps. Should a prince attend, he shall require a necktie borrowed from his father, or supplied by the hostess.
Princes are often peculiar about bracelets and may trade them for candy/toys as they prefer at party's end.

pps. I'd be ever so pleased to know that your daughter and her guests enjoyed themselves. Take pics--they will make a nice surprise in a high school annual at graduation or future wedding shower. =)

First, you have to have a theme then you can go to the party store and find lots of things. Be sure to have flowers, a little corsage for each girl if possible and some sort of little gift for each when she leaves. A board game or two would be fun, or have someone come in and do a "grown up" reading of a book (one on their level, of course).

Hello R., my name is E. Cerda and I host children's tea parties. Because I love the thought of little girls having tea parties, as my daughter did when she was young, I'd be happy to give you some ideas. First of all I teach them manners and etiquette, a couple of projects is for them to put on little costume clothes and plenty of jewelry. Then they put on hats and have a hat parade. They make book markers that they get to take home, sit and have lunch with plenty of teapots decorating the tables. I hope your daughter has a great time as you are making memories!
