Tampa Oncologist - Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

I am a 39 year old mother of two (6 & 3yrs) and I was just diagnosed with breast cancer. After the initial shock, I am left looking for a good oncologist. Dr. George on Habana in Tampa was recommended, but I don't know much about him. Does anyone have any experience with Tampa oncologists?

What can I do next?

So sorry to hear about ur diagnosis. Dr George is very good and we have slot of patient that like dr lauterztain.I am a nurse and work in a lung ms office and unfortunatly refer alot of of to oncologist.I have no personal experience with oncologist but I hope my input helps.I will pray foryou and your family.

I am so sorry you are having to go through this. Unfortunately, 4 or 5 of my nurse coworkers have dealt with breast cancer or benign lumps, etc. They all go to Dr. John Cox in Tampa. I agree that Moffitt is the best place to go, but if you need a private oncologist, check out Dr. Cox. Stay strong...you will get through it!!!

I have a coworker who's wife is going through cancer treatment. She first saw someone in Brandon then went for a second opinion at Moffit. They were blown away by how much more Moffit had to offer. Moffit has a great reputation and is the first place I would look.

Best of luck to you.

Contact the Moffit Cancer Center!!!!! Ask them who you need to see. Moffit is considered the best Cancer Center in the US.

GO TO MOFFITT!!!!! I wasted alot of time with other docs and finally went to Moffitt - Wish I'd gone there first!!!
GO TO MOFFITT

H. - I am so sorry to hear of this shocking news. It's my prayer that the cancer has been caught early and can be removed & treated for you to have a FULL recovery!

My mom was diagnosed with breat cancer just last year and she goes to Dr. Ron D. Schiff, MD...ofc #:###-###-####, 13601 BBD Blvd, #310, Tampa 33613. He is "old-school", yet very informed on the latest techniques and research. He is very thorough in his exams, takes his time, will explain things in laymens terms when requested, answers all questions, and is not at all quick to remove the entire breast if it's not needed...he works to conserve as much of the breast as possible.

I don't disagree with the other posts about Moffit, but I have heard that you are more of a "number" at Moffit than a "patient" b/c of all the research they do, but I don't have any personal experiences there.

Do not be afraid to get more than 1 opinion wherever you decide to go--YOU need to be very comfortable with the oncologist you choose.

Also - take family with you to your appts. and write down your questions before your visits to make sure you get everything covered.

My prayers for a full recovery are with you & your family.
