Talking - Des Moines,IA

My 6 1/2 month old used to 'talk' quite a bit, but is not much doing so as much now. Is this 'normal'?

What can I do next?

Ask the dr. One sign of autism is speech regression.

he could just be listening more. they are not great multitaskers at that age. they usually do one or the other. some babies are just quieter.

i would only be concerned about hearing loss if this had happened after a high fever or sickness. i think that may be why you are asking? i am not sure how to check the hearing of a child that young, but i am certain that there are ways- relative to their developmental age/ capablities. worth researching if that is in fact why you are nervous.

otherwise, you may just have one of the world's smallest/little observers!!!

So far I wouldn't be too worried about it. The joke goes we spend the first two years teaching them to walk and talk, and the next 16 telling them to sit down and be quiet. Enjoy the quiet while it lasts.

Oh yea, he/she is probably working on another milestone, walking, crawling, eating...so many different things!

It's perfectly normal. Your baby is just getting geared up to try new things, and I'm sure teething is having an effect. He/she will get vocal again by the separation anxiety phase because you'll be getting screamed at for a number of things by your soon-to-be bossy little one!

It is very normal for kids to stop something they have mastered or done quite a bit when they are working on a new developmental mildstone (walking, crawling, sitting, rolling, whatever).
