Hi,

My husband and I will be taking our 3 year old daughter to Seaworld on Monday. We have never been there before and I would like to get your opinion whether you and your kids enjoy it. My daughter wants to touch/feed the dolphins, can you feed/touch the dolphin? I checked their website and there is a fee of $45 to interact with the dolphin. I think its a little pricey. If you paid to interact with the dolphin, please let me know what you think of it.

Thanks
S.

So What Happened?

My daughter had a great time at Sea World. We did not paid the extra $$ to interact with the dolphins, instead we took her to the dolphin pool where she could have a closer look. Public feeding was over by the time we got to the dolphin pool, wish I knew earlier that feeding time was at 9:45am and 11:30am only. Our hotel was only a few minutes away from Sea World, which was great. We went back to the hotel so my daughter can take a nap and then went back to Sea World after dinner. The only disappointment that my daughter had was she was not tall enough to go and play in the jumper area and the slide. She was 1/2 inch away from the height requirement.

Thanks everyone for all your wonderful advices and opinions!

We had a great trip to sea world last year when my daughter was 2.5. She loved the shows and aquariums. We did do the dolphin interaction but that would be pretty expensive to do on top of the cost of admission. The only downside to a trip my friend recently took there was the heat factor, she said it lacked shade- we went in april so it wasn't an issue.

Sandra, there is a cheaper way to feed/pet the dolphin. There is an area of dolphins in Sea World where u can buy a tray of 5 fishes for less than $10 to feed them. U should feed one by one fish slowly and have your daughter pet it. You may want to call to double check that it's still available.

We took our daughter to SeaWorld last year when she was almost 2&1/2--she loved it and we got to see and do so much. We stayed close by at a hotel, so would come and go as we pleased. There is a pool where the dolphins swim where you can feed them fish--$5, I believe for a little tray of fishies. My daughter really enjoyed getting to do this and it seemed sufficient "dolphin interaction" for a toddler...

Hope your family has a great trip!

This is the San Diego place, right? I remember the dolphins. We didn't pay a fee--I think that is so you can feed them, touch them... But we were just at the water's edge and the dolphins were knocking balls around and they would knock it out to the people, and then we would toss it back to them.
Anyway, I remember it being a really fun day, for all of us!

There is a feeding pond there where you can feed and touch the dolphins without paying 45 dollars. You pay for the food. My daughter did not want to touch them when she was three. She thought she did until she got there. I was glad that we just paid for food.

I have a 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son and we have gone for the past 2 years. My advice is to save the $$ on dolphins. There are other things to touch and feed, I don't think she'll miss out! You can pet and feed stingrays which was REALLY cool and you can feed the seals and sea lions-funny, theyre LOUD and put on a show for the food! Have a blast. During the summer they have Seaworld nights. The shows are different - funny sea lion show - and they have fireworks. If you're staying close by its fun to go for a bit in the AM, get hand stamped, leave have lunch/nap, and return for the night! You definitely get your $$ worth. Have fun!

Sandra,

We were at Seaworld a week ago with our 3 year old son and 3 year old niece. The niece and her family live in San Diego and have a season pass to Seaworld to give you an idea about how much she enjoys it. Both kids enjoyed the visit. We did splurge and pay the fee to interact with the dolphin - they divide the participants into small groups and each group has a trainer and dolphin. So in addition to touching and petting the dolphin, you are also educated about him/her. Our group was by far the largest at that time - it was our entire group of 6 adults and the 2 kids. Our trainer was very knowledgeable and made sure everyone had multiple opportunities to touch the dolphin. It was a really neat experience for the adults. My niece fed and touched the dolphin - my son refused to do either. During the time that this was going on, they really limited "public" access to the dolphin area. I don't recall seeing another area or a way to feed the dolphin - early in the morning, when the place first opened, we went to the dolphin area and they do swim up to people, which may allow your daughter to touch them - none came that close to us and stayed. There was another area where you could buy food and feed something else - I honestly can't remember what! Anyhow - my niece did it, my son did not. I'm sure your daughter will enjoy Seaworld with or without the dolphin interaction.

I don't know about the dolphins, but my family and I really enjoyed Seaworld. Loved the animals shows, the acrobatic act was great, the polar bears exhibit was really cool, and they had some pretty ponies that you could take pictures with.

Make sure you put sunscreen on the back of your neck. somehow I forgot that spot and I had the worst sun burn. Bring a hat for your 3 year old. The reflection from the water really burns.
