Tagging All School Bags, Jackets, Etc.

I drew a flower on the outside my daughters backpack, so she could ID it. I marked the inside of the backpack with her name, grade and my cell phone number. I didn't want to put her name on the outside of it, in the event that a stranger calls her by her name, and she thinks oh he knows me maybe he is safe.

Just use a Sharpie permanent marker, or the Sharpie "Laundry" marker.
Simple.
Cheap.
Easy.

I use sharpie when my daughter goes to day care (they teach a school there)But make sure to write there name INSIDE the bag.You dont want anyone you dont know finding out there names while there walking home etc.

Sharpie is a mom's best friend :-)

I stopped labeling things long ago. It did not help locate anything once it was lost.

I do not have to do this yet, but I remember the last time this question was asked, there was some sort of tape that moms were using so that the name could be removed down the road for younger siblings to tag their name. If you do hand-me-downs it might be something to look in to. Sorry I don't remember the specific product :(

I put their initials on the tags inside their garments and I put the date so if it's clothes and we might have 2 of the same thing I know which one is smaller.

If its something really nice that I plan to pass on to someone else, I've actually put tape in & used a Sharpie on the tape.

Black Sharpie marker. I got some free Mabel Labels once through some promotion and they were great, but because I shop sales and thrift shops I wasn't about to spend more on the labels than I was spending on the actual items being labelled!

I use Lovable Labels (www.lovablelabels.ca). I've been using them since my oldest was in preschool, and they work great. They're labels that just stick on to clothing tags (or even directly onto the clothing, in the case of t-shirts that have no labels, socks, etc). I get the summer camp pack, which contains stickers that will work for pencil boxes, lunch boxes, tags for backpacks, shoe labels (that go inside the shoes), you name it. These items are washable and will go through the washer and dryer dozens of times without peeling.

What I would NOT do? Is write my child's name on the OUTSIDE of the backpack. Why? Because anyone can walk to your child and say "Hey! Trey! How are you doing?" The child will not recognize the person - but think they must since they know his/her name!!

Write the name in a permanent marker - like a Sharpie - on the portion of the backpack that goes against your child's back. Or write it on the inside.

Jackets, hats, gloves, etc.? I have a tag that is sewn in - initials - only. So we can easily remove for donation. I have also sewn a specific color of thread into gloves - usually on the wrist portion (gloves) and edge (hats) to aid in identifying them as ours.

I stopped labelling their stuff after about 3rd grade. That is the point where they need to take a bit more responibility for paying attention to what belongs to them and not losing it.

I used a Sharpie. Usually wrote initials or a name on the tag.
